I have a friend that has a bad back that rides one, he really likes his...
Curious. I see folks on those bikes all the time. How do you get going on them without falling over? I saw one guy a few months back stop at a major intersection and he went straight to the pavement.

Nice Ride, they are really making it easier for bicyclist to ride in the state of Washington by puting up signs that say "bicyclist may use full lane" in the citys. It does seem like it would be a feat to start and stop on one of them Benders ;) Cant wait to see a pic of your first wheely ;D

A healthy shove on one pedal to get some forward momentum is all it takes.
Nice looking Ride Randy!! Get it broke in real good and I will have a Brisket waiting at the end of RAGBRAI for you!! ;D ;D
Nice ride Randy!
Fix the cigarette lighter... ;)
Wow - a bicycling thread with pics. You've made my day. ;D
I have a friend who used to ride a regular upright bike and switched to a recumbent a few years ago when he started having back problems and it was either that or stop riding. He loves it. It sure looks like a lot of fun and comfortable on a long ride in the sitting area.
I saw some unusual recumbents when I was in France in August. There were the fully enclosed "bullet" style recumbents with a Plexiglas canopy. To me they looked like they'd be great for riding in the rain or cooler weather but I don't know that I'd want to be inside one on a warm summer day. They have little rubber "doors" at the bottom where you can stick your feet through when you come to a stop to keep the bike upright, if anyone was wondering.
The most unusual recumbent I saw was a tandem recumbent and the stoker (the rider in back) was facing backward, with the backs of the seats almost touching each other. Each rider had their own set of gearing for their own wheel and each person pedaled normally. Somehow, the thing moved in a forward direction. It was so totally cool, although I don't know if I'd want to be facing where I'd been while riding a bike.
Anyway, enjoy your bent. And the next time someone tells you to "get bent" you can just smile. ;)
Edit: This isn't the same backward-facing recumbent tandem I saw but it works the same way. An Interesting Recumbent (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2zohUdEXbU)
Ya dont need a level spot to park that at the segaso ;D
Nice Randy
I prob would put a bigger bend in it if i sat on it :o

Wow.. bet that set you back a nice smoker!
I bought my last one in 2002, I figure I have ~25,000 miles on it or so.
I ride to work 3-4 days a week - a nice little 12 mile ride each way.
Rick - I was about 100lbs heavier than now when I got the one in 2002.
Looks like a funky chopper to me! LOL . Are you going to like the longer wheelbase. Did you purposefully get the longer wheelbase and lower profile?
Sweet Ride!!
Looks comfy,,,,,,,,,,,,,and its even got a speedometer.
Havent been on a peddle bike sense I found out they made bikes with a motor on them. ;D

I am still getting used to the longer wheelbase. I looked at several other bikes and settled on this one. I looked at the Bachetta Strada and the Volae, I think it was the Club model.
I haven't compared the seat heights, It does not feel that much lower, But it sure is
faster.
