Title: Twice the pucks..., HELP
Post by: josbocc on October 09, 2011, 03:28:21 PM
Hey Everyone,

Have had my DBS6 for about two years now, and have had flawless performance.  However, I have ten lbs. of Snak-Stix in the smoker, and suddenly the smoke generator is pushing out two pucks at every 20 minute interval.

As the timer reaches the 20 minute mark, the generator pushes the next puck out.  Then I get an "E" message on the display, and the generator pushes another puck out (effectively pushing one unused puck into the water bowl).  It then works fine through the next cycle.

Am I in need of cleaning..., or do I have a bigger problem.  Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

Try taking the small cable from the back and switch the ends around. Sometimes this helps.

Devo,

Appreciate the info!  I'll give it a try once this smoke is done.  (Don't want to interrupt a good thing whilst in progress.)

Back in july i fixed all my dam E errors doing this. I didnt want to keep fiddling around with the short cord and what ever else, even though it would cure the problem SOMETIMES while in the middle of a smoke. Havent had a error yet since then.  :D :D :D

Mike,

Looks as if you just replaced existing parts with new ones..., is that correct?

CRG, the problem I'm experiencing is two pucks advance at every 20 minute interval, not a continous stream of them.

I just tried reversing the cable on the back, and the first advance tried to dump two pucks.  Second advance should be in about 8 more minutes (got my long-handled spatula ready  ;) )

Does anyone think that this is just a cleaning problem, or should I just go ahead and do what Mikecorn did, and replace the lines and microswitch?

Gus,

Just sent them an e-mail.  Guess tonight's "fattie smoking" will require me to open the tower every twenty minutes with my spatula in hand, unless I want to waste a few pucks  :(

Thanks Again Everyone for Your Advice,
Jeff

It sounds like your Micro switch is either sticking, or it is not being depressed far enough. This may be fixed by cleaning the micro switch, or it could involve readjusting the motor, or maybe replacing the switch. The following link provides some information, but I need to update it. To clean the switch us an electrical contact cleaner. You can test the switch by depressing it manually. That will tell you if the switch works, and that the motor may need to be realigned, because the arm is not depressing the switch enough. Another thing check the wiring to the switch. Though it may look connected it may be loose.

Gus and Habs,

After three cycles of having to catch "rogue pucks" the little bugger has settled back into a regular rythym.  What I did notice is that when it was cycling two pucks, there was a rather noticeable "clunk" once the first puck was pushed out onto the heating element.  Now it seems like everything is moving along nice and smoothly  ;D.

Perhaps a good dose of compressed air, and a check of all of my electrical connections is in order.

THANK YOU ALL AGAIN!!!  I don't know what I'd do without this forum.  You people are great, and always willing to help out.

Jeff
