Title: OBS wiring diagram.
Post by: viper125 on November 18, 2011, 10:20:33 AM
Does any one have the OBS wiring Diagram? It sounds simple enough. But would like to see it before modding mine. Figure enough of you have tore them apart enough time there should be one.

Ask Bradley for the wiring diagram.

I don't believe Bradley will provide any assistance for someone who is going to modify their smoker. That would be a big liability risk. I recall that Mike tried to get some specs from them and they did not send them to him.

The wiring diagram on the recipe site in Mike's plan for the DBS will work for you. Though you have the OBS the wiring of the elements will be the same. Just keep in mind that the wiring to switch, in-line fuse and temperature sensor is not included in the diagram. If you are planning to include the on/off switch the look at the wiring diagram on my plan for the OBS. Again the wiring to the sensor and in-line fuse is not added in the diagram.

Thanks Hab. I looked at those but I'd like a full one if I could find it. Just been thinking of something and would like to see if it's plausible. ArnieM, They could about are not going to. Couldn't even get specs on slider from them. But i will try when I take it apart if there is any numbers available. I'm not positive its over the mods as much as patent. It would be safer to mod. if you do the specs on things.

Didn't someone make a post on the mod?

The wiring is of the OBS is very simple and easy to draw once you take off the back, and bottom of the smoker. So I don't believe not giving you the wiring diagram is to protect a patent. I didn't include all the wiring in the diagram because adding everything cluttered the drawing.

What is the purpose of the on - off switch?

I leave my smoker outdoors 24/7. That means every time I want to smoke/cook I have to hook up my DigiQ II. There are times I don't need the DigiQ if I want to try something that doesn't need a lot of heat, or smoke something  quickly. During those time I can turn off the second element and use the OBS as it was originally designed.

Also if you PID malfunctions, and you still want to use your smoker, you can turn off the second element, and use it as it was originally designed.
