That looked (and sounded like) some of the goings on at the 2011 NEPAS Smoke Out, as I recall.

Now that you mentioned it Rick, Our welder at the quarry would keep his hardhat on the welding bench so if the manager came around he could stick it on real quick. He either had to have a hardhat on or a welding helmet. We had a demerit system for safety where as if you got ten demerits you got sent home for a day without pay. They took safety real serious there cause of Gov regs.
The welder had the habit of setting his lit torch on the bench and then grab the mig welder to tack something while trying to fit stuff together.  One day he filled my coverall pocket with spray foam for window cleaning while I was grinding some part. So to get him back one day I filled under his hardhat with acetelene  with the second torch while he was heating a panel to straighten it. Once I made sure there was plenty of gas under it I shut the torch off and quickly went around the corner. Then I yelled the boss was coming and he threw his torch down on the bench and reach for the hard hat. Just as he got his hand about 3" from the hat it caught a spark and went off. Well that was the end of the hat and he couldn't hear too well for 2 days. Of course he wouldn't report it as he was the one to start it and he was known as a trickster so they wouldn't have believed him anyway. We all laughed about it for a week.  Pay backs a ...well you know.
