Title: dehydrator or smoker
Post by: kmarr on November 30, 2011, 06:43:54 AM
Hi,
I have seen lots of topics about using a dehydrator for jerky. Is there any difference in taste using a smoker or dehydrator? Is there any better brand of dehydrator for making jerky? Also if anyone has a dehydrator that they want to sell let me know.
Thanks Kelly

Hi Kelly,
I might be a little late in replying to your post.  I always make biltong, which uses the same method as making jerky.
The biltong I make in my home made smokehouse whicj I have slightly altered with a 240volt computer fan in the exhaust stack to help in drying the beef strips.
I can remove the exhaust fan speedily if I need to smoke. Matter of fact I dry and smoke my biltong/jerky with great results.
Matter of fact, everybody is always asking me when I have some more to give away.
Send me a PM if you need to know more.
Regards,
Jan.
Brisbane.

I am going to make or get a dehydrator. I will smoke the jerky and then dehydrate it to finish.
