Title: Guys who done the fan mod
Post by: viper125 on December 11, 2011, 05:02:35 PM
Ok guys I'm getting ready to add the fan to mine. I was wondering especially from people who have done it and makes jerky. I was going to start a dehydrator for my jerky but if I add the fan whats the difference? Figure heat at 120-140 degrees with the fan running is a basic dehydrator. I'm also adding 8 more racks for space.  Now is there still any sense building a dehydrator?

I have the Fan mod and 12 racks combined with a PID.  Works very well for me, but I'm sure others will be around with more advice.

The Bradley with the fan and a PID works great as a dehydrator ;)

Just how much smokey flavor you get when doing fruit and such? Will it put off a kid or maybe some one who dont like smoke? Or will they not detect it?

You are going to get smokey flavor in your fruit I imagine so maybe it does not totally replace a dehydrator. ::)

Well going to try myself I guess! I bought mine from Fair-chase as a package deal. Already made up. Just have to drill hole and mount. Also will add the other element while doing it. I can see there being a small taste maybe but can't imagine it would be an issue. Especially after putting a acid and a sugar on some. I started to day and didn't have all my tools here. Boy had them at his house LOL. As Always! I am thinking If this don't work out as a dehydrator I will make one to hold my 12 racks and use a Bradley element and the extra Auber PID to control temp. Maybe add a fan too. But as soon as done we will try the Deer jerky first.

Is there a link to where you can get this fan package?

Sorry Fair-chase is the user that scrapped out his Bradley. He followed the mod on recipe site. He posted it all on here and since I wanted to do all those mods I bought the whole package with 8 racks, Smoke generator, PID,3  bubba pucks.2 boxes of hickory ,element and all gaurds, vpan and electrical for 180.00 I thought it was a good price and included all I need to do the 12 rack mod with a few extras I may need down the road.

But I seen the fan package on yard and pool I believe.

Pretty much the same as I got. I like my rails better he made two aluminum that go all the way across to the edge. Should really make the fan solid.

LOL exactly like that but just one not two which it looks like you got. But he used the electrical box and the two rails like yours. I was pretty impressed with the construction. He took his time and did a great job. I like it bolting to corners rather then sheet metal in the center also.
