Title: Make a rack extender to raise sausage rods in your smoker
Post by: pmmpete on December 18, 2011, 11:39:21 PM
Many smokers aren't very tall inside, but there is several inches of wasted space above the top rack, which reduces the length of the sausages which you can smoke.  Here is a stainless steel rack extender which I made to raise my sausage rods up to within a quarter inch of the top of my smoker:

This rack extender gives me 17 usable vertical inches inside my smoker.  There are notches in the bottom of the extender which go over the rack supports, so the extender can't move around.  The extender is set far enough in from the inside of the smoker so even if I slide one end of a sausage rod all the way over to the wall of the smoker, the other end of the rod won't fall off the other side of the rack extender.

Nice Pete

Tie a couple of extra hitches in the hanging strings and you will be shorter yet. It looks like the two could add 3 inches of space for sausage.
