Here in Pennsylvania dutch country we start the year off with Pork and Sauerkraut with mashed taters, it is a tradition, suppose to bring luck and a better year then the last...one of my favorite meals...I think my family in Texas has black eyed peas and some kind of cabbage or collard greens...
Anything but black eyed peas.
Anything left over, I'm usually to hung over that day ;D ;D
Pork, greens, field peas, and corn bread
Aspirin and hair of the dog
x mas left overs
Either Hoppin' John or blackeyed pea Jambalaya. Hamhock and cabbage gumbo works too!
Pork, blackeyed peas, greens, cornbread. Typical Southern, supposed to bring good luck for the coming year.
Collard Greens with smoked bacon, Black eyed peas, and Cornbread.
We in da South has ta have our Black Eyed Peas wif some poke for good luck. Fix up some corn bread and some greens and you all all fixed up for the New Year. Got my Peas in the pantry and the ham bone from the Christmas ham is in the freezer ready to go in the crock pot New Years Eve.
I'm on the other side of PA and will be having the same as Gary. Pork and Sauerkraut with mashed taters, and some knockworsts. Spelled wrong but tastes the same. ;D
We're gonna do a Yankeefied cabbage, turkey, rice & black eyed pea thing..
Cabbage, cornbread, and black eyed peas. With a side of tequila. ;D
We have no traditional food at our house but Pork and Sauerkraut with mashed taters Sounds pretty darn good . I think this year will be a first, thanks Gary ;)
QuoteWhat do y'all eat on New Years Day ?
New Years Day? Usually whatever is left of the leftover snacks that were made for New Years Eve. Nothing extraordinary.
Navy beans, leftover pulled pork and ham and cornbread here.
Always cook a nice roaster of bbq ribs slow cooked for 12 hours or so. And a nother of krault and ribs cooked the same. But this year just me and the wife. So trying to figure a good smoked meal.

We always have an open house on New Year's Day for somewhere between 40 and 80 people. I make ham, black-eyed peas, collard greens, cornbread, and pecan pie (all of which are considered "exotic" in Hawaii). Other people bring raw fish (bait?) and whatever. What else would you conceivably serve on New Year's Day?
At a minimum; black eyed peas for luck, and some type of greens for prosperity.
No black eyed peas for me please............never did like them!!!

Turkey,turkey and more turkey !

Leftover haggis from Hogmanay!!!!
Just kidding. I may wear a kilt but it doesn't mean I have to eat haggis.
I will be at work so for me it will probably be a bento.

Better haggis than black pudding!
Well menu has chanced! I cut up a large pork butt in to country style ribs to smoke. Then we will splint into 2 crock pots and add shacks BBQ to one and Sauerkraut to the other. Some home made baked beans with Smoked sausage,BBQ Sauce,Hot peppers, onions oh yeah and Smoked Bacon! And what ever else she comes up with.
