Title: Hey ghost9mm (or anyone else who knows)
Post by: Roget on January 02, 2012, 10:07:51 AM
What is "starnes" & how do you use it?

I am looking for a sauce for my pulled pork which is flavorfull yet lighter than a "BBQ" sauce.

Anyone with any other suggestions??

Thanks so much.

Hi.. First here is a site that you can order Starnes from...

http://www.jpsaucehouse.com/starnes-original-barbq-sauce.html

Here is a "Starnes Good (meat of your choice) Sandwich".
1.) Start with (again the meat of your choice)
2.) Put a heaping amount of meat on your favorite bread, bun, bagel, or English Muffin.
3.) Shake your Starnes Bar-B-Q sauce to get it mixed up real good. Apply a fair amount to cover the meat.
4.) Add your favorite hot peppers or pepper Jack cheese.
5.) Enjoy with a cold beverage of your choice. ( we prefer Coors Light)

hope this helps you... there are several others on the forum that have much betters ways to use Starnes.. some of those Kentucky boys were raised on that milk of life... :D
.

I add it to my scrambled eggs in the morning. Gets you off to a good start.

I just smoked a pork butt yesterday and made a Carolina vinegar based finishing sauce using apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, cayenne, pepper flakes and salt.  Unsure of measurements right now, but you can google it.  It was great.  I did for the same reason, wanted a lighter sauce this time.

Being one of those Kentucky boys who happens to live exactly where Starne's was invented and still made today, I have a word of warning.  If you google Starne's you may run across a link for a Starne's Sauce clone recipe.  I tried making that recipe once and I can assure you that clone recipe is not like Starne's at all.  I mean NOT AT ALL!

in being from the great white north i have never had the pleasure
of tasting starnes yet, but from all i have read about on here i am thinking
of contacting them and seeing how much shipping would be to canada.
i see on there website they also have rubs, are their rubs for pork and brisket
worth getting? which ones?
i see they also have other bbq sauces, any good ones?
