Hi was just wondering if anyone had a recipe for home made beans, starting from scratch.
Mick
well, you make a hole in the dirt, put in a bean seed.... Sorry, couldn't resist-will go back to my corner
Is there any type of bean recipe you are looking for; such as baked beans, bean casserole, standard cooked beans etc.
Gus thanks for the good laugh :D, you can come out of your corner anytime and use that sarcasm to make me laugh. ;D
Habs I was thinking bake beans, I was going to use the left over pieces from the bacon I made, to put in the beans. Sorry I didn't clarify it. sometimes my mind is out there farther then I am actually thinking. (squirrel) ::)
Mick
The reason I need clarity is that I'm not functioning on all cylinders early in the morning. :)
I haven't gotten around to making this, but his recipe has received good reviews:
Smoked Boston Style Candy-"ized" Bake Beans! (http://www.susanminor.org/forums/showthread.php?278-Smoked-Boston-Style-Candy-quot-ized-quot-Bake-Beans!)
Keri's "Hog Apple" beans are a hit around here.
It looks like a lot of work, but basically you just start opening cans/jars and dumping it in. The Blues Hog sauce and the apple pie filling is the key...
QuoteKeri's Hog-Apple BBQ Baked Beans
3 or 4 slices bacon, diced
2 (27 oz) cans Bush's Baked Beans
1/2 c. Blues Hog BBQ Sauce (or other sweet-spicy favorite)
1 lb. smoked leftover smoked pork or beef, more or less,
or 1 lb crumbled cooked pork sausage (a maple flavor pork breakfast
sausage is good)
1 (15oz) can apple pie filling, pieces somewhat chopped up
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp. Mustard (prepared)
1 tsp chipotle or cayenne powder (optional, to taste*)
1 tsp Blues Hog barbecue rub (or your favorite bbq rub)
Brown bacon, and saute onion and green pepper in bacon grease.
Mix in remaining ingredients. Bake at 325 F for 1 hour, or simmer
on stovetop in large pot for 30 minutes if you don't have time
to do them in the oven. Serves 12.
This recipe began life as APPLE PIE BAKED BEANS from somewhere
on the web, but I think I've made enough changes to it now to
claim it as my own. This is my standard for baked beans anymore.
Jack's Old South does something similar to this, but I understand
that they use peach pie filling instead.
*This is a rather spicy recipe due to the chipotle/cayenne powder.
Feel free to leave it out if you'll be feeding those who prefer
a less spicy taste.

Habs, I just clicked on your link for baked beans and the recipe site says I am banned!! My ISP did change their IP about a month ago - maybe has something to do with it. If not you, who should I contact?? Thanks

Hi Tom;
Sorry about you being locked out. More security features were added. I don't have that level of security to add you. You will need to contact Olds. He logs on regularly to this site; I noticed he was on yesterday. So if you send him a post with his name in the subject line, he will notice it sooner, because he may not read all threads. You can also go to his profile on this site and send him an email; he does not respond to PM.
I sent a message to the webmaster and Trey had me squared away in less than two minutes. Most impressive
Alton Brown has a great recipe on foodnetwork.com for great baked beans from scratch...
everyone thanks for the recipes, Devo and La Quinta, I am going to try both of those recipes.
Thanks again to everyone.
