Has anyone had experience with this type of mixer?
Cheers

I have one also purchased at P.A. Works great but is a real pain to clean. You need a large sink [laundry sink] to fit it into so it is all covered with water. I just use it for large batches. Piker
I have one like this, it is just a different brand, it is useful but I find it more and more difficult to use as you increase your ingredients during the mixing process. If you are using any type cure, the mixing gets very difficuly once the meat starts getting tacky. I have just started mixing with my hands.
Mine looks just like that but I got it form Cabelas. It works real nice but I find it a pain to clean so I only use it on larger batches (10 lbs or more) and I mix the smaller batches by hand.
I too have the same type that I bought at Cabela's.
I like it, sure saves the handswhen doing large batches of meat.

This reoccurring theme is one reason i avoided that particular type of mixer. I mix small batches (less than 5 pounds) by hand & use my kirby bucket mixer for 6-12 pound batches. Easy to use
AND clean, & makes quick work (less than a minute) of the mixing.
If I were doing large loads of meat on a regular basis (20-25lbs), I might consider something else.

Your right Kevin.
I have the Cabelas 44 lb mixer that hooks up to my grinder. It works fine but is deffinitely a beast to clean. I just got the larger version of Kirby's mixer but I haven't used it yet. As I understand Kirby's larger mixer will hold close to 40 lbs. I typically mix in batches of 25 lbs so it should work perfect.

We used the mixer on Sunday for 20lbs of kielbasa and 10 lbs of breakfast sausage. It works well and cleans up fairly easily. The shaft with the paddles comes out making it easier to remove the mix and clean up after. The sausage kept 4 adults busy for 5 hours and it all turned out well. I probably won't use it for smaller mixes.

The cool thing about Kirby is that he also has a 2.5 gallon mixer that can easily mix 10-12lbs of meat as an alternative to the big boy. Regardless, the way he has constructed them makes for super easy cleaning.
I've got one like that that but mine has a motor to turn it. Turning it by hand for as long as you need makes you're arms sore. Also cleaning is a chore. Over all it works good for a large load.
To unload and clean the big Cabala's mixer detach it from the motor , lay it on its side at the edge of the table, drag the meat into a tub and replace that tub with a tub with the cleaning water and wash out the mixer. It will drain well on its side if it is tipped up a little. Have been doing this for 10yrs.

I used the 2.5 gallon mixer this weekend. It really REALLY works well and the clean up is a snap. Good investment without a doubt.
I have been in touch with Kirby and will be getting one of his mixers in the very near future.
