For cold smoking you could use a cardboard box and a A-Max-en smoker http://www.amazenproducts.com/

Or build a wood box smoker using a hot plate.
Search here for home made smoker, or cardboard box smoker or on the internet.

thanks or the reply

i have a small camping log burner here, and washopeing to get the chippings and dust smouldering, then attach a metal dry'r duct to the flu, and the other end to a large metal box or filing cabinet

the duct would be 10 meters ?? is that to long ?? how much would i need for the smoke to cool ?

I am thinking you need a "UDS" ugly drum smoker. You should contact NePaSmoker. He built a great one which he had to give away when he moved. Not to dis anyone else cause I have seen other ones built but can't remember who. Anyway if anyone can show him how they are built it is a good and cheap way to start.

This cowgirls smoker is pretty neat. But it looks like it would be somewhat costly to build.

He is now in the land of the warm and happy. You can go to the members list and find him there. Then send him a PM or you can wait for an hour or so and he will comment on your post. LOL

pork butt recipe: 1 large pork butt
1 Bottle CYM (cheap yellow mustard)
1 Cup of your favourite meat rub
1 dose of whatever smoke you favour
Smoke for 5 to 6 hours ( atleast in the Bradleys. May need more for the UDS. Someone will let ya know before you start cooking. and then about as many hours as it takes. I don't know the timing for this but the recipe is the most important. You want to cook it low and slow. The slow cooking is how the magic happens. It takes time for the collagens to break down and get nice and tender so you can shred the butt.

The one the guy on that site had has a nut inside to attach it. I would just go to a cooking store and buy a long probe cooking thermo. Then I would take a short bolt and drill a hole threw the length of the bolt. Drill in so it goes in the head and out the other end and is a nice snug fit for the thermo shaft. Put a hole in the right spot just under the lowest basket, stick the bolt threw and tighten a nut on it. Then you can just slide the thermo in and slide it back out so it is easier to get the baskets in and out.
