Looks like a perfect setup. Lots of instant heat, even heat (with the fan) and temp control. Now you can smoke big loads, smoke in the cold and hopefully not have to rotate the racks.

Nice. I have a second element sitting around that I've never put in. Might go with a single like you. I did the fan mod about 3 weeks ago.

Looks NICE!!! I have the dual element mod. If I had to do it over, I'd probably go 900w instead. I plan to install a fan at some point.

I am curious; you say you have the dual element mod but would prefer a 900w mod. Why would you prefer the 900 to the 2 - 500 watts?
Sorry for the late reply. I think I said if I had to do it over, I'd go with the 900W. Overall, it looks like an easier modification to make than the dual element methods. The next easiest method IMO is the one TedEBear came up with (and the one I used). Just two leads from the ends of the first element to the ends of the second so that they are now in parallel. The hardest thing with it is cutting the holes in the reflector and notching the ceramic (same as the other dual element method). But a dremel is your friend. You also need to take the slider out of the loop (QED), and you MUST have a PID to control the temp.
The duel element method most frequently used here has the advantage of each element being independent of the other, so you can cook with one or both. It's appears to me to be the most difficult - but if you're handy (I'm not), I'm sure neither of them is probably very difficult.
So I'm not sure either one of them works and better than the other - just my assessment of the difficulty to install.
The dual mod is really not hard if you really look at it. Instead of connecting to the poles of the other elements you connect directly to the power as the other one does. As for the switch its like all power switches as it splits the power wire (no ground) to cut the power to the element. The diagram just requires a little more looking.
How much money for the mod. How log did it take to complete?
Well the mod took 1 1/2 hours and cost was the price of the wire,5-6 connection fittings and an element. Oh yes a switch. about 10.00 for wire and whatever the switch and element is. I had a element and switch came from yard an pool. Just checked switch 6.00 and element 25.00.
