Can't say I ever tried the stuff; nor have ANY inclination to do so.

Not sure about the other branches, but at least in the Navy we're now getting "pre-cooked formed beef crumbles".  It's essentially ground beef but hollow so it heats faster and the texture is....well, lets just say spaghetti night usually meant doubling up on the coffee.
