Raye,
I'm not having time out problems anymore for some reason. Whole Da*n internet has been slow for a week. There are times my download speed is 1/5th it normal speed, ranging from 232 kbs[:(!] to my norm of 4765+ kbs [:D], same holds true for others that I've talked to. CB

It works fine for me. No problems whatsoever.

Raye,
I haven't tried posting for quite awhile now, so I'm not aware of the timing out. But I do agree with you that this is "our community" and you have been a very involved member which is greatly appreciated. My vote goes with whatever you think is best for the site and "our community". I am surprised Wade isn't aware of the business this site drives to his products! Go get em' Raye![8D]

Just tried to post and it timed out. I would hate to lose this forum but it is clear Bradley doesn't give a tinkers dam. I'd like to see it moved to a reliable provider with some IT capability.

I have been having trouble even reading the posts(I get time-out almost everytime) not to mention the time outs on replys. I'm in favor of giving them 1 more chance with a definite time period associated with having these issues resolved. ChefBill must be having a problem cause of his double posts?

I am constantly timing out. It's getting so annoying I hardly post anymore. I think the best thing is to have them fix it. If they refuse then it's time to move on.
Jack
I have had such a hard time lately that I stopped reading. It got way to frustrating. Friday is a time that many activity is lower. So its just lucky why i am here now.
My vote is move on. We lost some members due to this issue and Bradley surely already lost some busines. Atleast let us continue to share and learn, in our own community where we can control this better.
Edit: And suprise me, my post failed. but made it, good thing I did not post twice. I hate it when a bug trains me what not to do (use logic).
I can't believe there are some people that are not having trouble. I have a time-out issue about 95% of the time. I would be interested in hearing why they are not addressing this issue. They can't be too busy making money to take care of their Customers are they? I have seen other companies too busy for their Customers. I can't remember their names because they're history.
Olds; as far as I'm concerned this is already your site. If you feel it would be better to move on then so be it. I and many others will be right on your heels to where you decide to go. I have to be honest with everyone in the fact that I don't participate 90 % of the time because of the problems with this forum. There is no better group of people I will ever meet as the ones here and I hate to think I would loose contact with them because of Wade's reluctance to fix the problem. Which ever way you decide to go I support you completely because you have proven many times over that you have us in your best interest. Regards; Patrick.

Raye,
I do not have the timeout problem. I find the site is slow to load some of the older pages after a search, and in fact the search mechanism seems pretty slow to come up with results. I am on DSL here in Illinois.
Now last week I did have trouble accessing the Forum site at all, but it seemed to be related to net traffic. When I tried later everything was aok.
I think moving the forum to your recipe site would be a huge PIA for you.

Not sure what to do next. All the key principals are aware of our problems, Bradley Canada, Grakka. No one seems able to fix and I cannot understand how that can be.
I contribute nowhere else. I came across this forum back in 2004 when I first bought my smoker for making jerky. My time here has enlightened me about what I can accomplish with a Bradley smoker. It would be a down right shame if others could not increase their knowledge through sharing as I have.
That said, I frequent less often now because my spare time is limited and I cannot handle the frustration of re-typing things over and over. If this problem is not fixable, perhaps its time for Bradley to move on to another web hosting service. Perhaps the fix is that simple.
In the mean time, I will keep lurking here like Spiderman trying to right the wrong and help those in need. I do visit Olds Place on occasion and participate in chats when I can. If a group of people start to post there as well, I'll try and split my time. Funny thing is if everyone goes there, there will no longer be a need to come here. That would be too bad.
I sincerely hope that Bradley can fix this one way or another because I would like to keep coming here. I vote for the lobby Wade Bradley movement to see this place upgraded as first action plan.

I really don't post that much. I do however read new post daily. I've noticed when I do post, it takes a long time once I hit "post new reply". I'm always learning something new from this forum, and it would be a shame to leave this behind. Keep all of us informed as to what you decide Raye.

It's my experience that forums who have administrators who are also active participants are the best, most friendly places. Problems get solved. People step up to help when the admins need help, etc.
I've always found the search function here to be unbelieveably slow. It also seems that when I do a search, the rest of the site hangs and I can't do anything for that minute or however long it takes to do the search. I'm a member of a forum that must have 100 times the activity and 1000 times the total messages posted, but searches there come back immediately. I really don't understand how this site could be so slow.
I'm all for having someone new run forums.
Now it's dragging azz for me to. Sometimes it just pops in there and the next page may time out. ALSO, seeing a few double posts too. May have bad trunk feeding the server. A lot of servers use "T" carriers leased from AT&T and it may be their trouble because I've seen other forums having some slow response times too. Who knows. Need for the server to post a response to the forum members. Better for us to know than not know what to do.[?]

Even though I've been here for 8 months, and never posted, I do think this. Playing devils advocate, I did not even know about this site till after buying the BS. I do understand that Bradley's business does come from sales of their units. Do most of those sales come because of things said here, or are there outside factors that influence the sales. Since buying mine from Bass Pro, I have not bought from them. I ordered my biscuits from Chez when I needed them and have had no need for Bradley themselves since. (knocking on wood that mine will keep working). With the lack of my posts, I still consider this to be my (all of ours) forum. If we have to move on,then thats what I think we should do. From checking here daily, Olds don't overextend yourself and your talents if you don't have all the time in the world to fit all your interests in. I do appreciate what you and the rest of the regulars have done to help me and my smoking endeavors out. I think the community would follow you though.

I was definitely having a time out problem. I would enjoy better access. I would enjoy better search capability. I would appreciate you taking it over, but wonder if he would let it go. Give it a try Olds. He can balk and nothing will change, or he will let you take it over and off the problem. When the company was new, we got an annual newsletter, recipes, etc. Now that it is up and going, like many companies, the things that made him successful are forgotten. It is too bad, and I know frustrating. It is however a fact of life. My hope is that he will agree to let you take it over.

" We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office."
I know I've had a lot of problems over the last couple of weeks with this forum timing out. I can honestly say that finding this group and reading the various posts was the ONLY reason I decided to buy my BS.
I had seen them offered elsewhere but had almost completely wrote-off the idea of getting one until I found this place.
I know I'm not the only person who searches for information about a product before buying. I can also say that if I had experienced the time-out issue when I first joined the forum I would never have stayed around to read the posts and certainly would not have purchased my new BS.
Let them lose new business for awhile and they will figure it out....hopefully. In the meantime I'm all for moving to another server. It's not like anyone at Bradley has evered offered any help or suggestions on this forum anyway.... that I've ever seen anyway. It's been you guys and I'll be right behind ya wherever you go. [;)]

edit: Timed out on this reply as well LOL
I had a really bad problem with my company web site timing out and we had a really tough time getting the host company to fix the problem. After a couple weeks they found the problem and it was fixed for good. We had to complein like crazy. But for some strange reason the timing coincides with this forum doing the same thing. I guess my angle would be to have it fixed and keep what we have.
But, for the record I dropped that host and now have a full dedicated server for my company. I know this doesnt help, and I wish I had the time to help this situation out more.

Last weekend I couldn't get in at all. It's a shame as this forum is the reason I bought the BS.
Olds, my two cents would be another attempt with Wade, call me the eternal optimist. Perhaps a deadline would produce a response?

Because of this forum I bought a Bradley. I was going to buy a gas smkoer until I started reading this forum. And I have been telling everybody that will listen about the virtues of the Bradley and how easy it is to use. I think I'll keep my opinion to myself after this until the fourms are fixed.

Well said Owrstrich. That is exactly why I bought mine. The support here is tremendous, when you can get to it. If the issue we are having now would have been going on when I was researching smokers to buy, you can bet I would have passed on the BS.
With that said, since Mr. Bradley mentioned during your last conversation with him that he would have his IT people look into the problem, I think a follow call to him is needed. He needs to know that the problem still exist's and that us Bradley owners want immediate resolution to this problem. If he can't or does not want to act on it then ask him to turn it over to us.

"If you're not living on the edge, You're taking up way too much room, so get the he-- out of my way."
Well I've read every post here...
Several points have been made here today and in the 30 plus E-mails (which I read) I received today concerning this matter. I will address some of them here.
1. What happens to the site in the event of my death?
This is a good question. What most here do not know is this has be talk about this with what I call the core group in the past. There will be a group of members who are empowered to continue a site beyond my death. The site will be a members' owned site. Just as the recipe site is not owned by me or Wade Bradley it is OUR site. We own it. What we add there is time tested and proven. It belongs to us.
2. Are you Old's taking too much on?
Another good question. If there is anything I would hope you all have figured out about me is I direct things... Ya somethings I do things myself because I wanted to. i.e. the download of the entire recipe site to you desktop. However, I have professional people in my employ. I tell them I want this done by morning and it is done. Why? Because I'm the best employer they have ever seen.
I have a Professional IT manager who get a check every month from me on retainer. When I direct Trey to do something it gets done... So adding this to my work load... well for me it is a phone call... As far as Admin goes there are about 6 members here who would be empowered to handle problems...
3. Can I help $$$.
Another great question... Yes you can help with the $$$ when I'm dead. Until then sit back and enjoy the ride. This is chump change for me. I spend more on the newest Video card in a year then most spend on an entire system... Don't worry about the $$$ until I'm dead... then you can help with the $$$. There will be a cord group of folks to over look and over see that the site will continue... I would think that they will also pass this down to other members as their time comes closer.
I love this community which I see the same in so many postings by other members.
It was not too long ago we lost a great member due to E-mails from someone here. He had no one to go to... No one here could or would stop or ban the the person who was offending him. He is gone.. A Big Big Big loss to us all.
I will call him next week and see if I cannot get him back on the boards... But don't hold your breath folks. I think I can talk him into trying out a site we run... However, I don't see him coming back here after those E-mails. Especially with no one to stop them... Am I upset about that? You are cotton pickin' right I am. That member and I go back aways.
I don't see our "Mr. Welcome To The Forums" any longer...that use to be JJC. I don't see nsxbill posting much... I don't see Chez posting... I don't see many of us who a year ago standing together working together trying to help folks here any longer.
Maybe to some folks this is not important... It is important to me. That is why I set up a recipe site that so many of us worked so hard to create. That is why we have not only chat room but a voice chat as well... Are you as part of this community important to me and others like me ... you betcha you are.
Enough said... I will make my decision what I'm going to do next week.
Till then smoke on and make your food happy. [:D]

Many members, owstrich, whitetailfan and others have posted very pertinent and valid comments here but for me perhaps the most telling is one from nxsbill above.
I am a "johnny come lately" to the world of BS but it is quite clear that they do not give a XXXX (insert your choice of 4 letter expletive here!)about the forum and it's members.
On balance the forum is a very positive supporter of BS, have probably contributed directly to selling many hundreds of smokers and quite frankly it deserves better.
Conversely, whilst it has highlighted problems with the BS, the forum has whittled out some (ex) members moaning and causing trouble for troubles sake and identified very real and valid core complaints related to the BS and made people realise they are not alone with their problems.
The one reply we did get via Olds from Wade Bradley has proved to be empty words. Forum not fixed, no information for members on new products etc etc.
So whilst I was one of those who suggested hanging on for 2-3 months to see what happened I am rapidly coming round to Olds idea.
One other idea is to construct a standard email to Wade Bradley outlining our concerns along with Mr Bradley's email address, post it here on the forum and encourage every member and his dog to innundate him with emails outlining their frustration. Those that want to do there own emails would be welcome to but a quick cut and paste would make it easy for those whose are pressed for time.
I am only a member of one forum and that forum is much too good to lose!
And Olds...... it's a good incentive to hang around on this planet for another 25 years![;)]

Raye--I haven't been posting as much for a few different reasons, one of them being the slowness of the board.I totally agree with your statements re the community here--it has helped me pull through some tough times over the past 1 1/2 years, and I feel I've made some good freinds here.I'd say try again with Bradley to try and get a fix on this board, we might lose too many people in the transition. I like the layout of the recipe site you worked.
Others, note, while on the recipe site, try to remember to log in. What I do is log in, then establish my bookmark logged in. That way next time I show up, I am auto-logged in. Helps me move around and know where I am. Also helps the presence in the board. Most time I go there, there are 2 or more other online at the same time, but all are Guest.
And yes, Saturday things are moving a little better, but no gurantee. Could be a lot less people moving away from this board, leaving more space for others to be able to get a response.
Unlike some boards when you log on you must check the remember me box so a cookie is placed on your system. Other wise you have to log on each time.
Harpo & Cuckoo I'm so sorry about your problems... you both will be in my thoughts during my quite time tonight.

I feel Mr Bradley should be held to his word of fixing the problem. It just makes no sense to me that the "Forum" is a bother to him. It is one of his greatest assets. If we have to go independent I know that we will still promote the Bradley which unfortunately will benefit Mr Bradley. We will just have to accept that.
Brad
Olds,
I would not be opposed to another site. I would like to see n00bs at this site invited to join as well.
I think the way you have organized your site makes finding recipes and topics much easier. There are other features far superior to this site as well. I think the online chat would really be put to use for everyones benefit and enjoyment, advanced members as well as n00b.
If this addition to your site brings back other members that we have lost, that would be a huge plus.
The idea I dislike the most is your footing the tab. Maybe we could find a sponser or something.

Hey Olds,
Even if the issues get resolved here, will you still consider a "modifications section" at your site? I could understand the Bradley bunch being resistant to that here (for multiple reasons). But it sure would be nice to have an organized place to read about fans, puck making, temp controllers, etc.
Just a thought...

Let's wait and see what the new people will do and will not do. After that if we need a mod section for discussions I will put one up. You never know these new folks might just add one here if we ask nicely.

Hi Raye,
In the absence of Wade Bradley, I today (Feb 13) spoke with a Martin Mayer of Bradley who is in their head office at 604 524 3848. Evidently Mayer hired on with Bradley within the last 3 weeks. Among his responsibilities is the Bradley website (although he is not an IT per se) and forum so it was timely that I contacted him. I went over the reason that I had called Bradley and coincidently he tells me that he is just in the process of posting a message on the forum which I have yet to read. Presumably his message is similar to
what he told me which is essentially that Bradley are in the process of bringing on a new Service Provider company who will redesign their website, and monitor it in the future to ensure a quality website and forum. He said that Bradley' and the forum have both grown too much for it to continue in its present format. I impressed upon this gentleman the importance to both
myself and the good Bradley members of the "forum", of it being properly monitored and maintained. I further impressed upon Mayer that the forum is a very important instrument in Bradley technology and smoking techniques being disseminated to forum members and to prospective Bradley customers, and that
it would be a major mistake for Bradley to allow the forum to continue to fall further into disrepair. Mayer also told me that already they had repaired some bugs in the website/forum.
I mentioned also to Mayer that as an example, that I had obtained at least 90 % of my smoker/smoking knowledge from the invaluable forum and that as a result of my satisfaction, had persuaded two others to purchase Bradley smokers.
I guess we will have to see what the future brings with the forum but at least basis my telephone conversation with Mayer, I am optimistic.
Let me know how the new IT people perform.
I trust that this meets your request, thank you for all of the excellent work you have done in making the forum so valuable and interesting to the many Bradley smokers. BTW I am now just preparing to brine a full 10 pound turkey and then of course smoking it..
