Title: Turkey In Th Big Easy
Post by: devo on April 08, 2012, 08:26:52 AM
Going to be for supper tonight
Outside temp today is 41*F so that is going to play into the time till this bird is ready and it is very windy today which won't help

15 minutes and its starting to brown the skin

After a half hour giving it some smoke using the Tommy ring

After one hour I pulled the basket out to check IT with the thermapen and most of the bird is sitting around 150* F so still a ways to go.

Pulled again at the two hour mark and checked IT, this time IT was 169-175 all over the bird so now it is tented and resting in the house oven till supper time.

I know why they sell the splite rack that opens up, would be much easier to get the bird out of. That should be standard equipment  ::)

Very nice. I bought 6 on the holidays for summer cooks. 69 cents on holidays and around 3.00 in the summer. LOL

That turkey looks good Devo! How much pellets did you put around the ring and about how much smoke time did it give you?

I brought the pellets/wood chips mix to almost the top of the Tommy ring, that gave me about 1 hour and 15 minutes of heavy smoke. Pellets don't seem to work as well as the wood chips as far as giving a good heavy smoke but each seem to burn at the same rate.
