Hi from Ontario Canada.
I like this site! I've been lurking for a while and getting some great info, ideas and recipes.
My son bought me a 4 rack DBS for Father's Day last year.
I got 2 sets of salmon fillets smoked and 8 sets of back ribs smoked before the element died and the door broke.
Don't know if I'm at fault or the designers and it doesn't matter all that much. I have the "new element" and, thanks to this site, have added external hinges. so no big deal.
My son was embarrassed about it breaking so soon so he contacted Bradley. They sent him a new element and door parts with an apology, a smile and no charges, not even shipping. Nice!
He took the element and heat deflector off to get the number for the element and can't remember how the heat deflector goes back on.
Does deflector go above the element or below? I'm thinking above the element to get the heat evenly distributed and he thinks below the element to protect the bottom of the smoker. There is a 24 of good quality beer on this so help us out on who buys. The loser has to buy the beer but the winner has to smoke 4 racks of ribs so life is rough. In short, deflector above or below the element?
Cheers. I need to get smoking real soon.

My son says thanks to everyone for the 24 of expensive micro-brewery beer that I have to buy him for losing the bet on the deflector placement.
I can't complain too much as I'll just have to "few" of those beer while I'm smoking those ribs. And since it should take 6 - 8 hours to smoke them.....
Cheers Ted
Winner ----Winner either way ;)
