Says "This is a KCBS sanctioned event"...
Check those rules...
I think they allow FECs... ???  Not sure...

I don't compete, and as such, I NEVER lose  :o

I took a quick look and there are two competitions going on. The KCBS sanction event being held on Saturday will have to follow KCBS rules. The below statement is directly from the 2012 KCBS rules and regulations:

"Fires shall be of wood, wood pellets or charcoal. Gas
and electric heat sources shall not be permitted for cooking
or holding. Propane or electric is permitted as fire starters,
provided that the competition meat is not in/on the cooking
device. Electrical accessories such as spits, augers, forced draft
are permitted. No open pits or holes are permitted, except at
the election of the contest organizer. Fires shall not be built
on the ground."

For the Backyard/Grillers Competition; the rules will depend on the organizer, and any local or regional BBQ society (if one is involved). Sometimes they can include electric and propane cookers.
