My BTDS76P had a problem in direct sunlight that made it hard to read the lit segments on the display. I wrote Bradley with a suggestion and they never responded so I fixed it myself and Iwas wondering if I'm just picky or if other folk have a problem with the display in the sunlight?
I just put my hand over it to form a shadow so I could see when in bright light conditions. Has worked for the last 6-7 years just fine. What was your idear? Post some pictures of it.
Hi reretired;
Welcome to the forum.
I had the same problem with my DigiQ II, so I built a small box out of cardboard, and made a hood, similar to a lens hood. This would keep the device in the shade at all times, so I could read it at a distance. I also would be interested in your idea.
We promise not to steal your idea but just borrow it ;D. Any pics?

I made a circularly polarized filter 5 x 10 cm. Stuck it on with double faced tape. Sunlight (unpolarized) goes through the filter and comes out left hand circular, reflects off the innerds right hand circular and cannot get through the LHC filter (cross polarized) Light from the display (unpolarized) goes through the filter and comes out left hand circular. Pictures to follow.

Rats. I have before and after pix but I can't figure out how to post 'em to this forum. Can I get some help? They are .jpg files.
You can't post photos directly to the forum. You must upload them to a hosting site, or your own website then provide a link.
A hosting sight would be a site like Photobucket. Once you open an account, the below link will give you an idea of how to post the photos on this site.

Photobucket continuously modifies the user instructions, but the link is still pretty accurate.
This is the before:

And where did you find said filter? I assume they are readily available? Just attached over the display?
I bought same from Hong Kong, Edmonds Scientific also sells CP filters. I have some leftover due to minimum buy and would sell 5 x 10 cm CP filter for cost plus postage ($7).
Thats a noticeable difference.
Well, the science says it should work. I learned this from my graduate advisor at Georgia Tech, it's a shame it's not standard practice for outdoor displays, or indoor displays for that matter.
Looks interesting. Do you have any shots in full sunlight that are further away?
