Title: Philip from downunder
Post by: Phoenixworld on July 31, 2012, 04:55:03 AM
Hi

I had a standard weber kettle for 30 years then the legs fell off. Its now a herb garden resting on 3 tyres:)

About 5 years ago I left my previous employer after 8 years. My boss said "what do you want?" for a leaving gift. I said "how much?" he said $600. I said "done"! That was the cost of the WSM over here. I cooked some great meals, on real charcoal. Pork shoulders, beef brisket etc. wonderful.

But I confess, brilliant though I was/am at keeping that temp steady, I did get a bit cheesed off getting the hair dryer out at 0300 to get the bloody coals going again!

Recently my barbecuing-gaze came across the Bradley smoker and I am lusting after one, and trying to come up with a reason for getting one. My gorgeous wife turns 65 in two weeks, but that's a non starter!

So, after all that rubbish, what's the go? Are they really that brilliant? I notice comments about the door hinges. Are they shoddily built?

Thanks

Philip

Thoughts...

People are talking about all sorts of gizmos - temp control etc. surely the digital Bradley doesn't need that?

Cheers

Welcome aboard!!! I have a Bradley digital six Rack even though my avatar only has 4 racks :) The Bradley smoker is well built for the average homeowner and is built for residentail use not commercial use. They have a one year warranty which is much longer than most products out on the market. If you treat your smoker with care it should last a very long time with normal use. I have had mine for 3 years with no problems at all. Of course you may have to replace the element or other parts on occasion but they are very reliable. I have no regrets on my bradley smoker purchase and would reccomend them to anyone. I also have a Auber PID but it is not neccessary to have one unless you like to be spot on temperature wise. The Thermostat that comes with the Bradley has +/- 10° F at times which for some people is no big deal. Good luck on your purchase.

I bought a used one because I wasn't sure if I would like it and hated to pay full price for something I wouldn't like. Now, after using it for quite some time I would buy a new one in a heart beat. It makes smoking food almost too easy.

I have an original Bradley Smoker, it is now five years old and I have not had any problems with it. I smoke over eighty pounds of salmon a year, thirty pounds of cheese, ribs, pull pork, chicken, ABT's. I do not use a PID, just a 15 dollar digital thermometer for cabinet temp. I love my Bradley and would replace it with another one in a minute. You cannot go wrong with a Bradley.
