Title: CT expiration date question
Post by: Slamdunk on September 10, 2012, 07:32:32 PM
So I've got two bottles of CT with an expiration date of Sept 16, 2011.

I ordered them direct from CT last year sometime.
They have never been opened and have been stored out in the garage, away from sunlight, heat etc.

What do you think? Toss them? or as a co-worker whose husband is in the business states, "the expiration date is more for the deterioration of the spices etc in the product, so go ahead and use them "

I personally would use it if it never was opened.

I called the folks at CT about shelf life a while back as I had had some for quite some time.  18 months.

Good question, I have a few bottles that have been in the cupboard for a year or two.

Have had my bottle since late August of last year, had been in my cupboard until early last month when I used more of it and decided to put it into the fridge.  Still tasted fine to me.  Should clarify, used some right at a year ago, then in the process of moving in December forgot about using it, then used more about a month ago, so it was an open bottle.  I'm still here to type, so apparently it wasn't dangerous.

I may be wrong but I believe those expiration dates are sell by dates (unless it says "use by").

I have an unopened bottle in the pantry that's been there over a year. Gonna have to look and see what date it has on it. ::)

The bottle should have a batch number on it.  You can either call or email CT with the batch number and they will tell you when it was made.  The shelf life recommended by the folks at CT is 18 months from the manufacture date.

Thanks for the replies.

Just got off the phone with the good people at Carolina Treet - very friendly fellow.

As stated in one of the posts above, the USE BY date indicates that it was made 18 months ago and it should not be used, regardless of how it was stored. They were most definite in their answer.

Guess I'll be ordering some more !! Can't go without the stuff.

I am not saying you should or anyone else too do so, but I would use it myself.

That is the batch number.  Contact CT.  I chose to toss an unopened half gallon after speaking with the very nice folks at CT.
