Title: My week so far
Post by: devo on September 15, 2012, 01:05:02 PM
At the start of the week I new I had some issues with my 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup truck as the front tires where in need of replacing. They where cupping so I thought shocks and new tires would solve my problems. Hmmm......that was just the start of it. Shocks and tires replaced $945.00 bucks. Now with further inspection I needed upper and lower ball joints on the right hand side plus a tye-rod end. Another $1056.00 bucks. Well driving home I heard a noise I never heard before. Back to the front end guys in town, they thought it was front bearings   :o Oh well change them suckers and be done with it. So they did but the noise is still there. Off came the new bearings as I don't need them. Now they figure the front differential is making the noise. I got an appointment on Wed. to change it out. Wish me luck. If I didnt live twenty miles out in the country I would ride the bus and take taxis where I wanted to go. I hate spending money  >:( >:( >:(

I think you might have found the Canadian version of "Pep Boys" that can sell, but cannot diagnose your concern properly. Your noise concern after those repairs brings up some flags.

Are you saying Manny and Moe don't know Jack? :)

Unless you're driving around with 4 wheel drive engaged, based on what you have written, Devo, I would lean toward the wheel joints, aka CV joints being out.  Just my opinion though.

Man I hate posts like this, being a retired mechanic I hear of this kind of thing all the time and it rreally bugs me. The best advise I can give anyone is find a shop that you are comfotable with, get to know them, get all your regular service done there, oil changes, tire rotation etc, and then only use them to repair your vehicle, it is more about a relationship with your mechanic than anything else.  Get to know your mechanic, and he will take care of you. They get to know your vehicle and your driving habits, preventable maitenance is good and can save you hundreds of dollars in the long run.
