Title: anyone know if this is a problem ?
Post by: Da4cylking on September 28, 2012, 02:36:22 PM
I read so much about low temps on the forum here. I have the original Bradley and I am getting 300+ temps not even on full throttle. I was wondering if this is normal with the original element? This is the smoker I have

Any advice would be appreciated. It is not even set on high at this time

where are you taking your temps and what are you using? Is that with one or 2 elements?

Using an oven thermometer as well as the door thermometer. They are within 2 degrees of each other Oh and just the  1 factory element it came with

Is it hitting that temp with a load or just an empty cabinet?  Mine never had a problem hitting 280, but I never pushed it further to see how far it would go.  Also put a PID on it before I tried that high of a temp, so I don't really know how far it would have gone.

I have 2 slabs in there now and full water pan. I backed it down some and its at 250 now....I like goin at 225 on the 3-2-1 But heck I want to eat before 9 tonight so ill let it go at 250 til then. I was wonderin if being in the shack was affecting it with no wind etc.

I was kinda wondering the same thing. another question that popped into my mind was is the vent closed all the way?
i know that sounds odd but something is holding the heat......is it drafting out of the shack ok?

Hi Jerry !!!

Vent is all the way open it's just venting under the countertop   (which was a bad idea noticed it is loosening the glue on the top) Guess I need to get it vented out the side !! I may go ahead and do that this evening.  I have everything to do it with and I am off til Monday!! Just been lazy and on a Mexican food kick last two weeks. Gained 9 lbs  :o :o Gonna make a Barbacoa brisket tomorrow from a neighbors recipe.

Getting it breathing a little better may help.
so would sharing that Barbacoa recipe  ;) (maybe not but it was worth a try)

You betcha I will and photos along with it. It looks like my kinda beef for sure....spicy, smokey and ready for a fresh tortilla Gonna go drill a 2 1\4 inch hole through the wall and see what that does with the vent attched. I never noticed it before was why I was concerned it may be a glitch

Same here, don't think it's "breathing" properly

The Bradley doubles as a warmer for me when I go out and set it up. I like to have the smoke goin as well though just for the smell. I don't get to take my big pit to some of the events as they won't allow it Has to be able to fit in an 8x8 space my pit is to big :(
