Title: Pierogies
Post by: viper125 on October 20, 2012, 04:12:16 PM
Well still no camera, but today my wife was trapped inside with me. LOL! So I told her I have been wanting to make some pierogies. She thought it sounded good and I knew Id need help.So I dug the recipe up and we tried it. Well neither of us is in great shape these days so we took turns doing things and managed to get over 10 dozen done today. This is the recipe if anyones hungry like i was for them.

They came out great! Don't look bad ,but you get better at forming them as you go. Also some thing it don't say, my wife uses mostly self rising flour. Next time well do the other. When you boil them they swell up and look thick. lOL! Taste s fine looks a little weird. Sorry for the short report and no meat. But these days Im taking baby steps.:)

We love 'em too. I usually make sauerkraut ones in addition to the potato. If I read you correctly, when you freeze some do you do it before the boiling? I've always froze after. Have you noticed any difference between the 2 methods?

Aside from the onions, them looks pretty good and if I wasn't on such a tight budget with no room for screw ups, I'd give them a shot.  Filed in the memory bank for when I can though.  Thank you.

Well getting by. Lots of tubes and needles. Lol. Seems to be improving.
Well this recipe really is cheap to do. Its for 6 batches but you can splint and do one or two. We wanted some for freezing this time.
We used boiling water, than coated in the onions and butter then froze singly. Then put in bags single layer and froze. The onions and butter you can make in one batch or make as you go. Found if not cooked first dough will dry and break up.
