Title: Mailing Cheesy Gifts
Post by: Reboot on November 16, 2012, 06:17:32 PM
Does cheese have to be refrigerated?   I'm smoking up some of the usual cheddar, monterey jack and pepper jack cheese for Christmas gifts, and I'm wondering if the unrefrigerated cheese will make the trip through the mail without spoiling.

It will all be vac-sealed and not going beyond the US west coast so I'm thinking it will be okay...

I see the expensive wax covered cheese sitting out at room temp and all seems fine

If you send me some over here in Nebraska I would be happy to do a test for ya  ;)

I think you're okay shipping cheese this time of year.  Look at all the cheese Hickory Farms has laying around in their stores, so does Cabela's.
I saw a show on the Travel network one time that featured a huge cheese store in Wisconsin that catered to tourists and they said that cheese was fine to bring home unrefrigerated as long as you didn't set it on the dashboard of your car in August  ;D

I agree with Caribou! Would take a lot of heat for quite a while to hurt it. I would do it.
