Title: Door needs fixed.
Post by: viper125 on December 03, 2012, 09:14:22 AM
Well wrote to Bradley about my door. Also to get a price for a new one. But Probably will try repairing first. I am surprised to find the there is no mod for that on the recipe site. We have the rest!
Seems the easiest way I can figure would be with a simple piece of Aluminum angle. Not sure quite how to fasten tight. Seems like screws on the inside will work. maybe a few spots along the front seam where it goes around the front might hold.
Surprised Bradley hasn't at least designed a repair kit for it. Or some other enterprising guy. Since its just basically closing off the bottom of door and getting a hole for the hinge pin. Or am I missing something?

Do a search.  I remember seeing 2 : 1) just added hinges from Home depot (or Lowes) (2) another made a new bottom plate out of sheet metal.
Not sure who posted but I think I remember seeing something like that.

That is the mod I keep forgetting to add to the recipe site.

Well I have to do it any way. Maybe I can get some pics to use for the mod. Going to do the angle Iron. Figured if I can when its finish cut and ready to install I can make a cut pattern and mark holes and such if possible. If I could create a file the exact size it would allow some one to make the part before tearing apart. After all I was a die designer and die maker shouldn't be all that hard. If it works out good I'll post for you Hab!

From what I can recall, the problems with most door mods, are that they are too complicated (except the door hinge mod), so I didn't bother to rewrite any of them for the recipe site. If you can make a mod that is fairly easy to do with the average tools one may already have at home, that would be great.

Well Im thinking the thiner aluminum angle is doable with a hack saw or jig saw. And drilling wood be easier too. Like I said Im thinking on paper and what I can see but cant see its a big deal. Few screws in side the door to hold angle should work and maybe even seal the joint in front with a simple epoxy to keep stuff out and firm up the aluminum. I'm thinking of inserting the aluminum between door and seal. I had seen it down some where like that. But probably after the holidays when my smoking is done. Unless some one already has.
