Title: Fire Cider
Post by: carnie1 on January 15, 2013, 06:20:22 PM
Figured I post this in general cause it's Flu season, Here's how this came about, sold one of my trailers to a lady in Massachusetts and offered to deliver it, while there noticed a large jug with lots of stuff in it sitting on the counter, so I had to ask, she said it's Fire Cider, good for what ails ya, she said she takes a shot a day, so she offers me some, naturally I say yes, very different. Deb, feel free to jump in anytime cause this is a New England thing cause nobody down south or shall I say now cause I'm in FL , up north ever heard of it, So I bought a bottle of commercially made stuff firecider.com (http://firecider.com) Basically its a concoction of apple cider vinegar, horseradish, ginger, hot peppers, cayenne, honey, turmeric, onion, garlic , there are many recipes out there but this is basically what I used,I made a gallon,  I just chopped everything up roughly (Watch the fresh horseradish) I used shredder on food processor for that, mix well and let sit for a month, strain and use. I'm putting a few links up so you can get the general idea, BTW I gave the bottle I bought to my 84 yr old father and he swears by it now, If you use a metal lid make sure to put a piece of plastic wrap in between

I have had Fire Cider myself. I think ginger is the primary ingredient for fighting colds, flue, ect. I have several friends from the orient that make ginger tea for the same purpose.

My mother has been drinking some concoction she makes for years now. One shot a day. I know it has honey, ginger, vinegar, lemons and some other stuff in it. Of course hers has a Spanish name being that she is Puerto Rican.

Coquito is excellent.  My mom has an excellent recipe for one. She has been making it since I was a kid but only for Christmas and New Years.  She makes it and puts it in an empty Rum bottle.
This way it doesn't accidentally get to the youngsters when the family is all together :)

We always use a dark straight cup of tea. With 2 TBS of Honey,1tsp. Of lemon juice and 1/4 tsp of cyanne pepper. Some add 1/2 tsp. Of cinnamon too. I not only find it to help but really find it quite tasty and enjoy it quite often. Good for flues, colds and congestion. But the fire cider sounds interesting. Cant wait to try.
