Title: black liquid
Post by: murrhunts on February 23, 2013, 12:31:59 PM
I understand where the black liquid comes from, from all the smoke build up.  But it runs out of the smoker and builds up on the stand.  Is this common with everyones smokers?

Is your vent wide open?  Sounds like too much moisture in the box...

Or your smoker is not on a level surface.

Never had "black rain". Make sure you have your vent open.

I had the same mainly at the left front..a little at the right front and think it might have been due to not being level as suggested previously

I have always been a wide open vent smoker.

In fact I took my vent slide off my smoker so I couldn't

mess with it. But, occasionally I would get some black

drips and it seemed to be when I did a butt load of Butts.

I finally figured out that my meat was too close to the top

and not allowing a good air flow around the top of the meat

before it went out the vent.

I installed the rack kit and turned my 6 rack into a 18 rack and

that gave me all sort of rack placement.

When I started leaving more room at top, the black drips stopped.
