Title: Do the digital smokers hold the temp better?
Post by: shaner on May 15, 2013, 07:32:55 AM
I just bought the black smoker for $299 and the digital one is $399.  Is it worth the extra $100?  Does it hold a temp better?

If you are asking "does the digital have less temp swings than the original" then the answer is probably no.  I have the digital model and experience temp swings the same as everyone else.  The main feature to owning the digital is you set the desired cooking temp and time and the BDS takes it from there.

there is no difference in insulation and holding temps between the two,,, the only  difference is the digital controls there will be temp swings for various reasons,,, moisture in the box, how much load is in the box, how cold the  meat is when you put it in, Wind, out side Temp,  Top Vent opening, fat content of the meat, and others that can affect the smoker.

Thanks for the replies.  I think I'll stick to the one I currently have.  Those features aren't worth $100 to me personally.
