I have been reading/researching PID's for the last couple of days on the forum. I'd like to make one. I have seen parts lists posted and will probably be ordering everything up in the next couple of days. I plan on putting it all in a radio shack project box.
Couple of questions:
1) Does anyone have instructions or a diagram for step by step wiring up of all the components? I can follow directions. Just not sure how everything is wired up inside the box.
2) Stupid question....In what order do you hook it up to the smoker? Is the PID pulled into the electricity and then the BS is pulled into the PID?

The info you are looking for is here on the site for the most part if you do a search, Here is some of the posts that I looked up that have a lot of good info. Plus there is a very helpful bunch of guys that can and will give you advice. I just got one done that sounds similar to what you are talking about I think. One thing I wish I did is to make the thermocouple cord 6 foot long instead of only 3, so I could set it down on the bench beside the smoker now I need to elevate it but thats ok too.

The PID is hooked between the electric plug and the cord that plugs into the back of the bBradley box you cook in that turns off the power to the lamp that makes the heat, you have the slider rheostat on high.
I know I sure like it it holds the temp with in a couple degrees from what I set at.
Anymore questions I will help if I can otherwise there are others too, they sure helped me!

Thanks for the post and links. I have a list of the basic components to order. Is there any reason you used a fuse and switch on yours and others didn't?
Gary's diagram on this thread (http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=2739.75) helps, but it doesn't show the how the terminal block is wired in.

No reason for the switch just thought it would be a nice touch. If I understand the others that posted ( I am a newbie too) you don't need a fuse if you plug into the smoke generator plug, it is already fuse protected. I thought if I ever plugged it into a wall outlet then it would still be ok. I used the diagram that was posted on the links to kinda follow, and hooked up the terminal bar just to help with multiple conections.
