Title: Slicing summer sausage into slabs
Post by: drano on October 31, 2013, 05:29:05 PM
My slicer purchase question post in another section ventured off about how to cut sausage, so I'll post it here.
I tried out the new Cabelas 10" Commercial last weekend, and cut my summer sausage into slabs for making sandwiches.  Slabs lay out better on bread than circles.
First, cut the chub to the length of a bread slice.
Then lay it on the tray and cut it longwise.  Its the same as a saw mill cutting logs into boards.
Here's a pic of the finished product.  Sorry, no action shot on the tray side, but I'm sure you can figure it out.

Great idea. Funny I never thought of doing it that way. I don't have a slicer, but I'm sure I could get some slabs cut with a knife. Thanks.

Great Idea, it's got me wondering if someone makes a fibrous casing that would fill up square or if we could use a large casing and a small square carton to force it into a square shape as it stuffs.

I bet a short section of down spout would work, too.
