Title: Inject or not to?
Post by: wkahler on November 19, 2013, 06:55:18 AM
I am thinking of injecting that bird this year and was wondering the best things to use and also do u do it everywhere or just in the breast meat?  I was thinking something simple like just a herb butter or olive oil mix.  We didn't raise birds this year so i am going to have to go with the butterball from the store.

I really like making up an injection by melting butter with apple juice,   adding some cajun seasoning and minced garlic to it,  boil it and let it cool.  It makes a great injection into a turkey.

For a fried turkey, I inject the breast and the thigh.  My injection is really simple.  A stick of butter in which I've very quickly sauteed two or three cloves of garlic.

Since the bird you're going to use is probably already "enhanced" with a salt brine.  I'd use unsalted butter in my injection.
