HI There,
I'm a newbie at this and have been reading this board for a couple of weeks now and have noticed a few posts from Canadians having trouble finding cure #1.
I was in my local TSC store ( a Ontario farmers co-op type store) and came across the following product which says it is the same as cure #1.
It called Lem Backwoods Cure and was only $2-50 for 4 oz.
Cant seem to attach pics or I would post a photo
Chris
Hi Blokie,
From looking at their pdf I'd say it's probably comparable to Prague Powder #1. Here's the data sheet on it. http://cdn.lemproducts.com/downloads/9208.pdf
Looks like its 6.25% Sodium Nitrite and the rest is salt and some added dye. I'll let some of the more seasoned members comment but I think Prague Powder #1 is supposed to be 6% Sodium Nitirite or thereabouts. I haven't been able to find this stuff outside of Bass Pro Shop so if you know of any common places(TSC here doesn't carry it) let me know!

In order to post pictures, you need to have a hosting sight like Photobucket.

I would like to see a photo or if you can post a link. LEM has a variety of cures called Backwoods, and their seasoning cures do contain a small packet of cure #1; and then they also sell cure #1 by itself.

Prague Powder #1 is a commercial product name for cure #1, and has the same formula as Cure #1, 6.25% sodium nitrite.
If anyone in the GTA needs some Prague Powder #1 I have a few extra KG I would sell. Bought a large quantity as it was all I could find in the area. Split it with Jiggerjammer but still have some extra KG around. I packaged them up and vacuum sealed them in 1 KG packages. The cost is $5.00 a KG.

Yes! That is LEM's Cure that is the same as Prague Powder #1 (cure #1), it is not one of their seasoning blends. Also I see it states in on the back of the package under "What Is It?".
Now all that's left to do is post some pics of the smoked sausages you're going to make. :D
Actually, what I had in mind was Canadian pea meal bacon.
