Title: Not happy
Post by: smokemandan on March 29, 2014, 08:47:53 AM
if any of you read my posts about the ribs I did last weekend, you know that i wasnt all that pleased with the results, struggled with temps, etc. I feel it was mainly my own errors and the outside weather/wind that caused it to go the way it did.

However, now, 2nd smoke, and another issue - no smoke! :(
SG not working at all
preheated smoker, turned SG on, added meat, hot water in bowl, and had to leave for about 1.5 hrs
came back to find temps okay, but no smoke, and a bowl full of wasted pucks
not very pleased with this as you might imagine

anyone know why the SG just simply wouldnt work?
the display shows it working, all plugs seem to be in tightly....

Is the plate getting hot? If not un plug and take screws out of generator. Pull off every connection and push back on making sure they're tight. Clean any corrosion, oil or what ever on any connection. Should be fine. Probably loosened in shipping from bouncing around.

no plate is not getting hot
i unscrewed cover, checked plugs, everything seems tight and good
it advances the pucks fine, but doesnt heat up
worked fine when seasoning it, and for first smoke
arrrrrgh!
seriously considering taking it back :(

I highly recommend you contact Brian at Bradley. I personally have never had a problem with mine but I have read hundreds of posts over the years about how good their customer service is. I am confident that they will do right by you.

Check the wires connected to the element and if they are good you may have a bad element, if that's the case and you bought it locally it might be quicker to just return it and get another unit rather than waiting for parts in the mail.

You can check the heater for continuity too. Never had any problem either. I know many took apart and looked, but didnt unhook and hook back that had to do that. Some times just a matter of unplugging each one. But if you checked and thats not it. Take it back as mentioned or call Brian. Either way their sure to please.

Ok. No smoke.
I have checked the plugs are fully seated.
I have allowed a minimum of 20 minutes to burn a bisquette.
I have unplugged and replugged the connections.  and the ribbon cable is giving me problems.

Yes, I know it can only be reinstalled one way.  Any ideas?

Flip:  and now I must prove I am human before I can post?  Really?  Talk about adding insult to injury.

The prove you're human goes away after a few posts.  It's a hassle, but it keeps the automated stuff out of the way.
