I realize it's still 5 months away but I wanted to get this on the Forum so folks who might be interested in coming could start making plans now. It is located in Paducah KY, lasts 3 days and 50 teams will be cooking for their respective charity. On the last day there is a competition that Jan and I have helped judge for a few years now. Last year, Saber4 and NePaS also were enlisted as judges. The dates this year are 9/25-9/27. 80,000 pounds of pork and chicken will go up in smoke.
Squirtthecat and Hal4UK are confirmed as attending. NePaS, Saber4 and BAM1 are planning to attend if schedules and family member illness allow. Everyone is welcome. Contact me if you have questions or need help with accommodations. I'll be more than happy to assist.
Here is the link to the website for more information. http://www.bbqontheriver.org/
Can't wait till September!! :D
Booked our room this morning, if you want to have a great time in a neat town with good friends you need to make plans soon there weren't a lot of rooms left at the inn.
We are booked.
Where's everyone staying?

Where's everyone staying?
NePas and us are staying at the Super 8 Paducah on Hinkleville? Rd
Bryan, the hotel they are staying in is right off of the interstate and a straight shot 10 minute drive to downtown Paducah where all the smoke will be rolling.
And a Gander Mtn within a stones throw.
I'll be there again.

Yeah we had a hard time finding you last year through the other 74,999 people there ;D
I was the one with the UK hat. How could you miss me?

No J D. You will find us hangng out at Shandie's on the corner of 2nd and Broadway watching and drinking from a distance. Some of us are judging in the morning but should be done by noon. Come by and meet NePaS, Squirtthecat, Hal4UK, Saber4 and me.
Meyer Lemon(Cathey) came today. What fun to get to meet her.
I did not see this post until today. Sorry I missed you guys.
I did have the best brisket I have ever had this weekend. I've got to get working on my recipe.
Everyone is back home safe and sound. Thanks to all who came to spend the weekend with Jan and me. We had a great time and already looking forward to next year's event. I did not take any photos this year. Perhaps some of those who did will post some here later.
Seems like every year we have that one special moment. Here is this year's. I have a friend named Brad who is a Wounded Warrior. Before last year's festival I asked Rick to make Brad a survivor bracelet in the Wounded Warrior colors which of course Rick gladly did. I gave it to Brad and he was moved to tears that a total stranger would do that for him. At last year's Festival Rick and Brad got to meet one another face to face. That was pretty emotional. This year I contacted Brad and he came down to visit with all of us on Thursday night. On Friday night Brad came back and took Rick aside. He was holding something in his hand and told Rick "I have something I want to give you and I will be vey hurt if you don't accept it". With that Brad placed his Purple Heart Campaign Ribbon in Rick's hand.
How's that for special?
I only took one picture.

Here is Brad with my wife and Judy (Saber4) wife.

Brad took me to the side, put his hand on my shoulder. Said i have a bond with you, your wife and your kids. I have something for you from me to you and if you dont take it, It will hurt my feelings.
When he put this in my hand i got choked up and had no words (which dont happen much)

Thanks for the pic's Pat, very good as usual. The bond between NEPAS and Brad is truly touching.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing
This is the first time I've gotten a chance to log on since we got back and I have to thank Larry and Jan for inviting and hosting everyone to Paducah every year and sharing their birthday with us. Judy and I had even more fun than last year and last year was pretty phenomenal, I got a chance to move up from judging chicken to ribs this year and Judy got the call to join me in judging ribs on Saturday Morning. She was so pumped that she signed up on the list to judge next year. It was great to meet all our new friends and hang out with our old friends again. If you haven't been to one of these you need to make plans now for next years BBQ on the River.
