Title: Naked Pork Shoulder
Post by: Cobra7 on August 31, 2014, 11:40:24 PM
Anyone ever smoke a pork butt without putting anything on it? Thinking about doing it for the hell of it to see how it turns out.

I have not either. But you can cook it however you like. You can just use salt and pepper if you prefer. One thing you will miss out on is the bark, without the rub you will not get the good outside bark.  :-\

I guess i will keep using Jan's rub then. For a 6.5 lb butt what temps and times have y'all been using?

I have done beef roasts without any seasoning just to get the great beef flavor and it has worked well, haven't tried pork yet but I bet it would be good and if it isn't some sauce and you've got PP for dinner
