Title: Pork Butt Timing (4 X 8lb'ers)
Post by: Smojak on January 26, 2016, 06:24:28 PM
Any heads up on what kind of timing/planning to expect if I were to smoke 4 X ~8lb pork butts at once vs. doing one at a time?

I have done 4 at once before. They were around 6-8 lbs a piece. Some I had to pull off after 16 hours and the last one came off around 20 hours. IT definitely was overnight smoke. Don't forget to change water PAN (9x13) after 4-6 hours and replace with new juice.

Yep, my experience was pretty close to the same. 4 ea 7-8# ers took a good 18 hours plus

Depending on the temp, I would put them in around 2 pm the day before. if it takes 18-24 hrs to hit 205f you will be a hero. If it takes 27-28 hrs. you will be a hero to your guests, just stressed out . Remember to use the Texas crutch after your bark has formed, this aids in preventing over drying of the meat.  32 pounds is a lot of meat!
