Title: Temp control
Post by: jeffncris on February 03, 2016, 02:08:04 AM
Hi guys,

just a quick question. Should I leave the burner on the smoke generator on (after smoking is finished) to help maintain the temp? It's gonna be around 60 F very little wind when I do my first smoke this Saturday, and I wanna get it right!

Thanks boys,

jeffncris

At 60 degrees it probably isn't needed to help with the chamber temp but it will not hurt anything as long as there's not a bisquette left on the hot plate to smolder into ashes and generate a bitter taste.

Thanks for the reply, I'll shut it off after the last bisquette and watch the temp for changes. i really wanna nail this first one, got guests coming over!

If this is your first smoke and you have guests coming, I would leave the burner on for extra heat.  Experiment with your smoker later when you don't have guests to impress.  I always run the burner 100% of the time.  As Ted said, if you are going to leave it on be sure to remove the last puck so it doesn't continue to smolder.
