Title: Boston Butt & Chicken
Post by: GABJR on June 17, 2016, 05:22:57 AM
I have a 7 lb boston butt & am allowing 12 hrs in the smoker. I then have halved chicken I want to put in also.
Can anyone advise when to put the chicken in the smoker to be done around the time the butt would come out ?
Thanks

In my experience and from what i've read here  the chicken skin gets rubbery in the bradley so I'd smoke it for 2.5-3hrs at the start with the butt, then take it out, wrap it in foil and finish in on my gas grill (while the finished pork was resting) later in the day to get some crispy skin, as long as you get an internal temp of 165-170 on the chicken, you're good. Take the foil off the chicken first

Just an idea as opening your smoker door deep into the cook can significantly extend your overall cooking time

Another idea would be to wait until the butt is almost or fully done and FTC it. About an hour before you feel the butt will be done, take the chicken out of the refrigerator and allow it to warm up. While the butt is resting place the chicken in the Bradley.
