OK Hab won the last little contest. I'm going to make this one a little harder.
While there are many methods to kill or control ground slugs, in the world of organic gardening there are a couple of methods that are well thought of.
Question #1 What "barrier" or "wrap" would you use to keep ground slugs off of your rose bush?
Question #2 Around your rose bush what beverage would you place that is a slug's choice of drink and how does it kill them?
Your answer must be organic. (PS -- while salt will kill a slug it is a no - no as it will also kill the plant. So all answers must be of the type that does not harm a plant. Oh ya salt on foil is not the barrier! ;D)

Now that would be beer. How it kill them...without google'in I would say it drowns them....(However I'm guessing that there is more to it than that ;D)

Mmmmmm.......... earthworms eat decomposing vegetable matter and decaying animal matter for example, which although nutrient containing in itself is quite diluted. Earthworm castings contain all sorts of nutrients, partly due to the fact that earthworm also eat bacteria, fungi etc, in a more concentrated and varied form which is good for the soil so in essence what goes in is not as good as what comes out unlike most species where what goes in is considerably better than what comes out!! :-[

I've been an organic gardener for 15 years and have tried everything imaginable to fight off those pesky slimy beasts, including copper strips. Some things work, some don't, but organic solutions are always a better alternative to chemicals or insecticides IMHO. ;D Thanks again. Cheers

Correct! - Congrats. This is one reason why vermiculture (worm composting) is growing with organic gardeners.

One of the things that it will eat are pathogens. I saw a study on this and it did not take the worms long to reduce the pathogens to a level of nil. It's funny in this country we use chemicals to control soil-born problems. In third world countries they us the worm.

I should also add, like MWS, I too have been gardening for many years. I try to keep everything as organic as possible. I don't really have much of a problem with slugs (that I'm aware of) but am constantly battling the Japanese Beatles! This year's interesting challenge has been keeping my grapes free of fungus problems.
