We've had a repeat visitor in our yard lately. :o (That dark figure by the swingset) He has been eating my plums and apples and sleeping in my wifes perrenial garden. I plan on smoking some salmon this weekend...... ??? Hmmmm

Oughta taste good, being fed on fruit! Nice blackie....I think he wants to use the swing set! ;) ;D They ARE pests, aren't they Tom?!?!? We have a regular visitor here that scatters the contents of a small trash receptical all about (we don't put food waste in it....just the END products of my wife's furry poop factory), craps in the nicely mowed lawn, then leaves without as much as a "Thanks for nothing!".
I'll spare you the picture of the raspberry filled scat that was left the night before last and the blackie is just too secretive to capture on film...I've only seen him once in the last two years, but I pick up after him regularly. Guess he/she thinks that we might slip up one night and dump food in with the kitter litter trash ::)
He is neat looking. However, with that swing set if it was me I would take action. That means you got kids. Now I would not hurt him, but I bet one of those super pump up squirt guns filled with vinegar would give him second thoughts about coming around after the second or third time he came to visit and he got baptized with it.
If that did not work then I would try soaking ground red pepper in distilled water for a few days and then give that a shot.
Most animals learn and act from learned-responses. Make it ugly for him to come around and he will go away.

I like the vinegar suggestion. I'm gonna try that. What I've been doing is making noise, throwing stuff, yelling and that sort of thing. We just purchased some bear spray and bangers and will use it next time. Our kids don't go out unless we are too. Stella the 'guard cat' has been pretty useless. ;) ;D
There was one across the river from the dock in Port Renfrew last weekend(along with the biggest Roosevelt elk I've ever seen!)and as we walked down the gangway to climb into the boat, we watched the blackie scoop a nice coho out of the water. We got 14 or 15 coho ourselves over the weekend but we didn't have to wade in the water to do it!

Another thing to try might be mixing some ammonia in water, I was told that if you spray that on 2 fighting dogs it will split them right up! Don't know how much to mix though.

Had a black bear wander into Winnipeg last week. The Police darted him and removed him to the wilds. Bad enough with the whitetail deer inside the city limits, but bears are not on the guest list. ;)

Smoked the salmon...no visitor... put a chicken in the condom smoker. still no guest....apples still on the tree......he's either lurking waiting for me to pack up for the day or waiting for a night prowl. We are sharing his world as he knows it. If he don't bother us we won't bother him. I'm a city boy raised but real glad to be a country boy now, surrounded by nature. Gotta be careful though with kids.
Speaking of the salmon......thanks again Olds for the non-stick jerky racks. Man are they great for smoked salmon. No stick.. ;D
