Title: Microsoft's IE7
Post by: Habanero Smoker on October 23, 2006, 07:40:44 AM
I see that MS has released Internet Explorer 7. As for myself I am going to wait about a month to see what bugs still exist.

Has any one download and installed any of the beta or final versions? If so I would be interested in hearing the good and bad.

I recently retired from the government.  We upgraded to 7 about 2 weeks prior to my retirement.  From my limited experience, it was a nice improvement.  I am not a geek by any stretch but from what I saw it was worth it.

Thanks for the information. The screen shots I've seen look pretty good. IE7 is not integrated into windows as previous versions have been (if I understand this correctly), so the security should be a lot better. I don't want to switch to Firefox.

That's encouraging. I may download it sooner. Maybe in a week or so. It should be fairly stable, it's been in beta testing for ages.

Funny I cannot yet use it to bill the Air Force through Wide Area Work Force.  It is not supported yet.

I installed it last week and had a little play with it.  What I saw seemed OK.  I need to look at it some more but as I use Linux 99% of the time it will be a while before I get around to it.

Don't know about the Air Force.  I worked for the Navy and they use NMCI (Navy Marine Corps Internet) which is currently using 7.  The other branches may not have converted yet.

Sorry I was not clear in what I posted.... Wide Area Work Flow is how contractors bill the goverment. As far as I know the Air Force may already be using IE 7, but billing via WAWF does not allow it yet.

The warning concerning it is at the top of the page here: https://wawf.eb.mil/

I have been thinking of upgrading to in on my gaming drive....but I going to wait a bit first.

I am going to wait myself.  NMCI always has problems and I am sure that 7 has its problems to be worked out.  7 is very user friendly and I enjoyed it for the couple of weeks I had it, but until they finish testing, I would not recommend converting yet.

The beta testing is over. MS has released the "finished" product. But as you say, it's best to wait, and to have the general public test it for a while. A greater number of machines will quickly bring out any problems that were not discovered by the beta testers.

Well! I've been using IE7 for several days now, and have not detected any problems. I first loaded it on my laptop, after backing it up. It ran fine, so I backed up my main machine and installed IE7 on it. Every thing is running smoothly. No problems connecting with my usual sites, that includes secure sites; such as on-line banking etc. It seems to be loading pages much faster then IE6.

It's is taking some time to get use to the new button locations, and tabs, but those issues are minor. I just hope it is more secure than IE6.

No. It has to be XP Home or Pro with SP2 update, and of course Vista when it is released.
