Hi all, well in the u.k. yesterday the weatherman said it was gonna snow and .................he was right!
This is the cornfield next to my house:
It's getting deeper all the time:

The dairy farm opposite:
Well the snow is now about 6 inches deep and it's still snowing, nothing to iceman and you Alaskan guys i guess, but as usual here in England it's causing chaos! ;D
I remember a few years back, some boffin said because of global warming etc, it would probably never snow again in England, guess what, it snowed 3 days later ;D
Well i lost a days work today, and a days pay to go with it, but life's not so bad, i have 4 lamb shanks doing their thing in the crock pot, and i have 4 whole sides of salmon to hot smoke in the BS (http://www.emotipad.com/newemoticons/Tasty.gif)
The salmon is from Costco, unfortunately it's the farmed variety ::), but by time the BS has worked it's magic, i won't be complaining ;D.
Regards............LilSmoker(http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Respect/respect-062.gif)
Lucky so and so, the weatherman said snow for us and he was fibbing!! >:(
Enjoy! My two boys have got their sledges out ready, major disappointment if we don't get any!
Hi Manx, i really hope your boys get some snow, i remember my dad used to take us out with the sledges when we were kids, seemed to snow a lot in those days, great fun ;D
Why does the snow always come late in u.k. ?, would have been lovely at xmas, i think the last true white christmas in England was 1976?, we also had that real long hot summer in 76 too, was a real scorcher! ;D
Bye for now........LilSmoker ;)
You can keep that white #!#! (stuff), Been lucky here last few years with very little snow, but if I could get rid of this below 0 F temps for highs, I would be happier. Just think you probably have more snow than most of ND, and I prefer to keep it that way, Now you can take the cold with it too (please).
Great looking area to live in LS. Ya need a couple more trees though. :D I bet it is wonderful to look at in the summer when everything is green.
NEW YORK IS GETTING HAMMERED. ;D.

Thanks iceman, yeah in the summer it's nice, field full of corn, or sometimes maize, and the cows grazing opposite, sometimes the farmer puts fertilizer down not so nice lol!.
Over the back of the cornfield there's lot's of lakes, a couple of rivers and a c@nal, so we've got plenty of water around here. There are trees over the back, but as you say i need a few closer to me :D
Although it's very rural here, on a sunday morning i could drive to central london in about 20 minutes, not that i go there much, too fast paced for me ;)

Hi icerat, yeah i've heard you get REAL snow in NY ;D my cousin was there once, and it snowed heavy, he said he'd never seen anything like it :o
I know one thing, all this cold weather gives me an appetite ;D ;)

Don't let us Alaskans fool you, LS, you DON'T want to see the drivers in Anchorage during the first snow of the year. Ask Iceman about counting cars in the center divider on the drive between Wasilla and Anchorage during the first snow of the year. Every year it's like the first time some folks have seen snow and the rest of us have forgotten how to drive in it since last year.....it's always a pretty crazy mix, but it kept our firetrucks, (actually called engine companies), on the move!
Speaking of "crazy mixes".....science and politics is one of the worst...."Global Warming", my frozen rear....I still haven't seen any decent science prove up on that claim. LOT'S of politicians trying to convince us that our lawnmowers are producing more greenhouse gas than dairy cow farts, but so far the science is missing... ??? ??? I think that I can use proper scientific reasoning to theorize that "global warming" has indeed produced some genuine "gas bags", with Al Gore (the true inventor of the Internet) at the top of the list... ;) ;) Okay, I gotta quit this bent....it's reminding me that I still really miss TomG :( and it's not as much fun without the expectation of him giving me the virtual wop upside the head..... :(
Enjoy your "snow day" Lil Smoker! 8) (and the smoked "soylent green" salmon!! ;D ;) ;D ;D)
P.S.
I'd send you some of the tall evergreen trees that Iceman suggests, except that most of them around here are brown from bugkill! :o
Yeah global warming, Looks like another week ahead of below 0 to 0F highs for another week, this is cold even in ND. We usually get a few days here and there of bitter cold. but looks like this one is going to be over 2 weeks long and I'm tired of it. On the bright side it keeps the undesirables out and lowers are already low crime rate.
Also reading a global warming article the other day and it talked on how the glaciers are melting on one pole, but said the activist forget to mention they are growing at the other pole and actually may produce a net gain of glacier area.
Meanings Gore was mentioned already I'll add my unbiased political advice.
Oh yeah these environmentalist will even grow stronger if we elect the people(president, senators, etc.). So remember this when November rolls around each year.

AND FOUR LEGGED BEASTS AND FEATHERED FRIENDS!
Hi Kummok, so it's not just chaos in the u.k. when it snows then ;D
Alaska sounds lovely, like to see it one day.
I agree about the global warming etc, some people seem to forget the world has been changing since it began, ice age, dinosaurs etc. Last year some guy says the hole in the ozone is getting smaller, and in 50 years it will be fixing itself?, now they tell us it's getting bigger by the minute?, who are we supposed to believe?
I don't think they no themselves for certain ::)
I have always said that science is the best guess at the time and politicians simply bump their gums to gain notority.
In any event, I'm having another brew here in sunny Florida. ;D 8)

NEW YORK IS GETTING HAMMERED. ;D.
Parts of New York are getting hit with lake effect snow. With the Great Lakes remaining unfrozen, western and central New York are getting the snow, I'm in eastern New York, sometimes the lake effect snow will hit us, but I have only gotten a few flurries from what is hitting other areas of New York. In my area the total amount of snow we received for this winter is a little over 3 inches. Saturday was really the first snow cover we gotten, that consisted of 2.5 inches.
Sounds like you found the right spot to live Hab. What I've been seeing on the news was a lot more than 3" down in your parts. Man the mid states are just getting slammed this time of year.
The snow is falling in an area that is called the Snowbelt. Winds come across the Great Lakes picking up moisture, then dumbs its in an area from Buffalo to Cobleskill. They generally get a lot of snow during the winter, but not this much that fast. Those areas generally get over 250 inches of snow a year. I haven't checked, but I believe Northern New York is not effected by this storm either. So there is quite a large area of New York that has not seen much snow this year.
And here in nepa we just got a tiny dusting but its colder than a.........well you know
nepas
I just checked and no snow here yet. I'll keep watching. Most of the annuals got hit pretty hard by the great new years frost. Been a tough year. Not for the timid for sure.
I was reading a report that Green House gasses were building up because of Global Warming...not the other way around. Says it cycles like that every however long.

one week. It snows every day, I still managed to get to my favorite butcher and get some ribs for sunday supper.

Hi Sabre, :o wow i would love to see those pics.
For pics, first you need a host, Photobucket, Imageshack etc unless you have some webspace, upload the pics to your chosen host, copy the URL of the pic.
Then back on this forum you can click the picture icon when doing your post, and this will appear [img ][ /img] but without spaces.
Ok paste the URL [img ] Here [ /img] again without spaces, provided the URL/path is correct your pics will show.
Hope this helps ;)
As for the ribs, i'm the same, when i want ribs nothing's gonna stop me, in fact i'm just about to pull some out of my BS right now ;D ;)
Sabre;
Welcome to the forum.
The last time I was in your area, I couldn't go by a house that didn't have their snowmobiles on the front lawns for sale. Now I'm guessing everyone is taking their for sale signs down.
Looks like snow heading my way too.
nepas
Got rain today (kinda) and had to run the wipers on the van going to church.
The snow in NY looks crazy on the coverage here. Has now become an endurance thing. Hang in there guys.
Yeah wck, looks like the upstater New yorkers are getting it hard. Alot of the old timer PA folks say the winters are not like they used to be here where they got feet of snow instead of just inches. The weather man says looks like a nor easter going to hit, guess I gotta get the snow blower out and ready.
Put another log on the fire. WOO HOO :o
nepas
I only got a few flurries from those lake effect storms that are hitting western and central New York. Wednesday is a different story. If that Nor'easter stays on track then my area will be getting hit with snow, but nothing that can compare to the lake effect storms. Nor'easter's are difficult to track, at this time the weather men are say 7 inches to more then a foot. I hope it stays south enough so that my area doesn't get effected by this storm.
I think NE PA is going to get it too. My storm predator for my weather station is saying 5 to 13" Oh well what ya gunna do.

LilSmoker, Thanks for the help... That is a 6 foot fence and a pool some where under.... I need spring
Now that is REAL snow!!! :o :o :o
Over here when we talk about snowfall it's inches, and i can see that you guys talk in feet!, that is incredible! (http://www.emotipad.com/newemoticons/Thud.gif)
Btw Sabre, glad you got the pics sorted, just another tip for you, best to keep the pics no bigger than 800 x 600, as this usually allows the whole pic on screen.
Regards LilSmoker (http://www.emotipad.com/newemoticons/Tip-Hat.gif)
After a little dip in your pool, let's head to the beach and catch some waves, Sabre! (All pics taken yesterday)

Here are my pics that I promised (somewhere) on Monday. Our storm lasted from Wednesday evening to Saturday morning. Had some 40+ weather on Sunday, and the pics were taken on Monday.
First is the "smokehouse", along with one of Dad's pickups (back half of mine can also be seen) and the garage.
Next is the street to the newest addition to our town and the water tower in the background.
And now continuing on the same street, the one lane pass through the drift.
All righty we get the snow deal.Time for it to warm up for us to go play on my toys.

Yer not the only one surprised, Sparky.....wish I had a camera on the boat owner's faces when they see this! :o Some light icing in our harbor is normal, but this stuff is up to 19" thick...NOT normal for here. An "inconvenient truth" for Al's global warming propaganda machine... ;) ;D

Man I feel sorry for Kummok. He has to walk to his fishing hole right now. Rumor has it that they might cancel the salmon derby this year.

As Alaskans continue to endure frigid weather and blustery wind, March is headed to being one of the coldest on record, weather experts say.
Alaska weather gets no respect
Wow!, so Ice, does this mean you'll be asking for the boat back that you loaned to Kummok? (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d148/olepop/th_Redneckboat.jpg) :o ;D ;)
