Here is what I have happening..... It seems since I started using 2 Bubba Pucks that at times the pucks don't advance, like things get hung up because of the extra weight. Never ever missed a puck beforer I started to use them. You can hear everything running trying to advance the next puck but nothing moves towards the puck burner. I lifted up the stack and held it then hit the advance button and it worked but didn't until I did that. Now it might work evertime until it runs out of pucks. Anybody else ever notice this or had it happen?
Thanks,
Mark
Not since the pucks, had it happen before the pucks. Not a clue, maybe someone else will.
I have never had a problem, but then again I do not put the bubba's on until I can only see only one puck in the chute. It could be the weight and the fact that the wood pucks will crumble.
I put 3 pucks on and have never had a problem. They go on from the beginning even with 4 hours of smoking bisquettes loaded.
Hi MRH, i always add 3 bubba pucks to whatever ammount of bisquettes i'm using, although i add the bubba's 1 at a time, instead of just dropping all 3 in one go, but the 3 bubba's are always there from the start.
Maybe you have a weak advance motor, and the extra weight has made it more obvious?
I haven't had any of the probs you've mentioned ???
Anyway i hope you get it sorted ;)
The darn thing cycled all the rest through then! I had enough pucks loaded to do 5 hours of smoke last night and after getting it going after it hung up it must have worked fine on the few remaining pucks. Probably would be better if it would just fail then I would just look for something broke!! Oh well it just makes me check things more often. I sent a e-mail to Bradley so we will see if they have any hints on it. Maybe it could just be the cold too never gave that a thought, until looking at some previuos posts. It was 20 degrees in the shop where it is. Thanks for the help everybody.
Mark
I've been using Bubba Puck since Kummok started manufacturing them, and never had a problem that was caused by them.
I have had bisquettes jam up on a few occasions. It was usually do to me not loading the bisquettes correctly. If one is slightly at an angle it will not drop down but get wedge in just above the slide, and the generator will continue to work as if it is feeding the bisquettes through as normal. Other times it is due to a warped bisquette that gets jammed, and again the generator was working normally, but because the bisquette was jammed no pucks were feeding through.
I have the same problems. So now i wait until there are just 2 biskitts then i add my 3 pucks. :o

If you have used your generator a lot you may want to take it apart and clean the crumbles of the bisquettes away and maybe store inside in cold weather so grease is warm when you start? but if under warranty, bradley they may send you a new one.

Yeah that's good advice imo, i partly dismantle my generator every so often, and i'm amazed at how much gunk and wood builds up inside. I carefully clean everything, especially the bisquette advance mechanism, and blow it all out with a compressor. ;)
After going through all of the above responses, my guess would either be a particle temporarily stoped it from working, or an unlevel puck.
I have had the same issue on two generators. It sounds crazy but drilling out the pucks solved the problem in both cases. The pucks just wiegh too much in combination with a dirty or weak motor mechanism. Keeping unit clean will help...or prevent ;)
There is a thread - who knows where - that discusses the same thing. Advance is fine without the pucks on a 4 hour load and misses with the pucks.
Drill is your friend ;D

BINGO!!! ;D
What size holes and how many did you guys drill in them?
Mike
Greetings Cold Lake Mike, Just hollow'um out some - it is a wieght loss thing. They still have the mass to sit on the puck burner and toast off the crud to help keep it clean. I think they are 3/8" and about 6 of them (i will take a look when it is light outside by the shed). Otherwise just kinda go for it. If i had the right stuff I would have gone in sideways instead of through the top and bottom so the flat surfaces stay flat and nice but it is easy to debur. About the only tools I have here is a shovel so I just plant roses. :)
On a 4 hour burn (smoke) would it not be just as easy to load the unit with two 2-hour smokes?
Thanks West Coast, I haven't had them jam but I do notice the advance motor makes a little more noise with them on top. It would be nice to keep the top and bottom surfaces intact but I wonder if the open holes on the side would create a place for them to hang up when they are on the final drop just before being pushed in. Sometimes they drop down a little on the leading edge first as the slid pulls back. Anyway I think I will drill them top to bottom just to lighten the load a bit. It will have to wait... Just put a load jerky in.
Thanks
Mike
WCK
Drilling them from the sides sounds like a good idea so the flat top/bottom stays smooth. Drill press time.
I had some shovels too but i gave em to my wife for planting roses and such ;D

Mike, Dark again and forgot to count holes. :-[ I think you have a good point about the leading edge catching on the lip the tube sets on. It may be possible.
:D :D NePa, if the Mrs should did a hole about the size of a sheet of plywood and maybe 6 feet deep... ??? ... that would be time to sell some stuff in the garage ;) ;) ;)
Talked to Bradley today and they told me to take the generator cover and clean things. I had already blowed the crap out of it with a air compressor after I finishe the other day and did get a bunch of particles of wood out. Maybe it was that or pucks not quite in right, because it looked very clean probably like when it was new even. So WCK I think I will drill holes too, to lighten up the load a little in the bubba pucks. When you say sides do you mean on the flat side or the edge of the bubba puck?
Thanks,
Mark
Half dozen 3/8 inch holes. They feel lighter. Have not had any trouble on this generator. Dont know if it is the generator or the holes but I know from an old post the holes help... 8)

Clean and pretty are they not?
Looks great thanks!!
Mark
Opps I miss-read this thread... I thought you all were talking about the pucks themselves... Doh on me... :o
Ok I did the modification to the Bubba Pucks too. I drilled 7 holes at 7/16", I know they are not all evenly spaced ::) Here is a pic.

Hey MRH, you've got an extra hole in each one, even more lightweight! ;)
Did ya weigh 'em before and after? How much did they lose?
They look a bit like the chamber from a revolver, or blades from a meat grinder/mincer ;D
Designer Bubba Pucks!, everybodies gonna want them ;D ;)

I know that I do. ;D
Haha! yeah Wildcat i'm getting another urge :o
I remember when my new toys arrived from the states, courtesy of Kirk (Chez Bubba)(http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Respect/respect-023.gif) Maverick ET-73, 3 Bubba pucks, at the time i thought to myself these are very precious (which they are) they'll get treated with a lot of TLC. Manx actually looks after his better than the family crystal! if i remember? ;D Anyway i did surgery on the Maverick with great results, as i'm monitoring a pork butt right now at my pc, which is in an upstairs room, and the BS is in the garage. So big success on that one.
So i'm wondering whether to start drilling holes in my lovely precious bubba pucks?
Decisions, decisions ??? ;D ;)
If you have the equipment - I say drill away! I doubt you could mess them up beyond repair. I only received two from Chez. I will probably order another one when I get around to ordering some more wood. ;)
MRH, LEt us know if they take care of the issue. Your holes are bigger as well so hope they work for you.
wck
I will let you guys know for sure. I could weigh them to let you guys know what the finished weight is too. I have been out of electricity since Saturday afternoon so the weighing will have to wait for power, it really sucks and is getting cold in the house hopefully maybe today >:( There are power poles snapped off around and they are very busy. At leats I can come here to work to warm up and use the computer!!
Mark
No power, and cold weather is a bad combination. I hope your power is restored soon.
;D ;D ;D Yah Hoo power just came back on today ;D ;D 6 days plus a couple hours is plenty to be without, even after getting a generator to help!! Any how I weighed the modified Bubba pucks tonight, they weigh 2.7 ounces. I weighed a regular apple puck at 0.6 ounces still quite a bit less. I didn't have any other packs open or I would have tried them to see if say hickory would be heavier, I would think it could be because the wood is heavier to start with.
