Hey all
I just need to let all of you know about this. My son's school always does fund raisers that just make sense. This year they are doing a Math-a-thon, rasie money for a good cause and encourage the students to do math problems and excell. This is our second year in this, this year however hit closer to home.
My son Matt's in 1st grade this year, one of his classmate's Thomas has a brother who's 10 years old and is now at St. Jude Children's Hospital with a brain tumor. 3 years older than my own child... The outcome is positive right now thanks to the research and expertise at St. Jude. Our community is helping the family and its really strong, a tight nit community is showing their support for sure.
This spring they are doing the Math-a-thon and Mat's class has a real meaning, rasie money to help kid's like Thomas' brother.
The day when Matt brought the forms home he was addamant, we ned to help. He went and got a bag he keeps his savings he earned by collecting change, chores, etc.. and immediaty was taking a large collection and asked us how much he needs to give. We told him, no he needs to do the Math problems and we give the money. Well, he got the book and started at it and is finishing page after page. 200+ problems and they will be done. This is great.

As of 1 PM Thursdy the 29th Matt has raised $265. Thanks to everyone.
Wanted to bump this up because I like this organization, and love the concept of having the kids learn while raising money. Also threw a ten spot at it yesterday...wanted to do more, but was lucky to have that much available.
Tim, Thanks for this. We got word today that the Family for my son's classmate got a good community gift. His mom is down in childrens's hospital now while they are preparing for surgery to remove the brain tumor and hope it will be a success. The family is upbeat, when I talked with the Golowicki's father yesterday they are ensuring the boys are happy and aware that their brother is Ok and in the best place he could be. We are all praying this surgery will take care of the tumor and all will be fine, thanks to St Jude and the research they have done and continue to do.
thanks again for the support.
For two days in Feb. my radio station participated in a radio-thon for St. Jude's...........

We are at $365 and Matt has completed 70% of the problems already. He should be done in 2 more days.
On another note, weather is good and we got his basketball set outdoors and he's shooting and this evening, goal is at 9 feet. and he made 6 shoots within 30 minutes. All time best performance. its fun to get home and the two of us go out and shoot around and have fun with basketball, even for 30 to 45 minutes. Good for our health to run around, shoot around, pass the ball around and have a good time.
Tell Matt I sent enough in to get him over the goal he was shooting for. ;) Pat

My wife infomred me she has been increasing the goal every time the donations go past goal. I still have folks sending in checks from family, friends (All of you included) and co-workers. The generosity of people is amazing.
Thanks all.

I'm just glad the young ones are taking such an interest. It gives me hope for the future. ;)
I agree. We heard so much negative about our youth when the truth is that the majority are actually good moral young people with their hearts in the right place.
Its still early but I have hope in the next few generations to come.
I have a project manager working with me who is great, he understands how to treat customers and work to build a unified team focused on the right goals and values. But he is the only one I seen in a while with this intensity. I have him captured on my work right now as long as I keep him happy. Its a challange at time with budget issues, my work cycles every few years, we are now in am upswing so I am helping him more than before right now.
I hired a local kid out of high school on condition he pushed on with College, and I set him up with the project manger, he took him right under his wing and is molding him as I hoped. I told him, he's yours mold his interactions with costumers and integrety and keep him in school, I will take care of the rest. Its working. I have hope.
I see in my son, some of the same values early on. I need to nurture and work with him the same way.
Thanks again to all of you out there.
