I thought that while they were smokin. When i started to fry them i could smell the smoke, they really turned out good. I fry in lard to eliminate the polyunsaturated garbage. Must be my spanish roots ;D
My mom tought me alot of mexican and tex/mex cooking.
Here is the recipe for the empanadas.
1 pnd lean gb
salt to taste
1 large spoon full of sofrito added to the cooked gm
yellow/white turnover crusts (you can buy goya frozen if you cant make em)
cheese (opt)
roll out the tortilla to about 6/7" put gm in middle (however much you like) fold over and seal ends with fork. Fry in lard until golden bron appears in the skin.....done. They freeze very good also
I will post the sofrito recipe in the non smoked foods.
