I am excited about an upcoming get together and wanted to share. Me and my family are meeting up with two good friends and their families on my friends farm near Maxville, Ontario. We are campiong out on the farm and each bringing a smoker and will smoke piles of food, drink Scotch and smoke cigars for a couple of days, while enjoying the Maxville Highland Games.
I'm cooking up "Aint your mommas meatloaf" and maybe some ribs. Whole turkey and smoked salmon are also on the menu.
I am soooooo looking forward to spending time with friends and enjoying the finer things in life, all to the sound of bagpipes of course.
Smokin Stu.... It just doesn't get any better than that!
Have a great time!
Mike
Boy I've driven a lot of Ontario and until today I'd never heard of Maxville.
If the weather stays like this, it will be an awesome weekend. Enjoy.

Man that sounds great stu. I haven't done something like that in quite some time. I thinks it's time for me to plan the same thing before summer disappears. ;D
It just gets to easy to get tied up in the day to day grind and forget to stop and enjoy life once in awhile. Thanks for reminding me (and the rest of us). ;) Pat
I hope you have a safe and wonderful trip. Enjoy life while you still have it. I just got back and you got me wanting to go again.
Nice way to spend some time with family, and friends.
Glad for ya...
Smokin,
Better throw a couple extra racks of ribs on, after all that, they'll be back for seconds. ;)
wish i could get to Calif and have a smoke-a-thon with some ya :o

Aye, laddie. this sounds like a great idea to me.
From the posts, only able to devine that a handful live about Northern California. That said, if someone were to, say, take the laboring oar and define a date (sufficiently later and before Thanksgiving), a place, and a pot luck list, I'll do my best to be there with some home brew and smokeables. Heck, I'll even behave this first time... for a while at least.
All kidding aside, I've been thinking of how to bring a few Westies together without making a big to do out of it. Even with a central place could be a huge amount of driving for those North or South. And I want to see a pig roast in the Bradley, so we need to include those Southern Cal Gentlemen. ;D No pressure, though. Problem with California is that it's too darn long. Would prefer to throw this out to all you guys, but understand geography, responsibilities ( :P), and limitations. All the same, in for a penny, in for a pound: if there's enough interest I'm sure an airport friendly venue can be located and reserved pretty easily post Labor Day. Just thinking out loud.
I'll help in any way I can if there are enough others out there to attempt an event out here. Sound off if you're interested. (with the new addition, my wife is going to hate me for suggesting this or offering assistance). Well worth the risk, in my opinion.

I'm in Northern California (South Bay - at one time known as the Valley of the Dot Com's - if that means anything).
If schedule permits, I'm interested.

Are "girls who smoke" invited? I smoke...my husband eats!!
Heck, always willing to have smokin' girls around (couldn't resist).
And as for the SV, know the place way too well. The ole stomping grounds.
Still looks like we'd need quite a bit more interest before making the next step, but maybe this post needs to "FTC" a while.
In this context I mean Find Those Committed... Who will Follow The Crowd to Fun Time Country, while Filling the Cups, etc.
I'd be up to it but I am sure the hardest thing will be to find the meeting palce we all could get to without taking a vacation. WCK and I are both in the San Diego area. La Quinta is not too far away in the land of Desert and golf resorts. OWRSTRICH is well, Where's Waldo is the best way to describe his travels. So, is there anyone in the middle? Where is the middle?

I'm back.
Had a very small bowl of pasta with a lite tomato sauce for dinner when I got in. I am pooped after an eight hour drive.
No meat for awhile now though.
Friday dinner to Monday breakfast was smoked meat. meat. meat.
Started off with salmon to munch on, my five year old son turned into an Otter and devoured much of the first large fillet. Dinner of ribs, followed by more salmon after dinner with an excellent arrangement of cheeses.
Breakfast was this filo pastry, smoked salmon cheesy thingy with ample coffee, then the smokers were relit (I was the only one with a BS).
Then it was more salmon, and then Canada Goose and Snow Goose breasts marinaded in a blueberry mead and then draped with bacon in the smoker. Fantastic. It was decided that the Snow goose was better than the Canada goose after much beer, Scotch and some serious cigar smoking.
Dinner that night was "Ain't yo Momma's meatloaf". Folks were genuinley interested as no one ever heard of a smoked meatloaf. Man, it was outta this world, and not a stitch left. I served it up with boiled new potatoes a rich beef gravy and veggies grilled on skewers.
Then it was more salmon and a very nice briskett, with some moose sausages thrown in to boot. Racks of smoked turkey wings flew around the campsite.
Cigars, Scotch and beer was interspersed randomly throughout.
There were so many trailers, tents and smokin' machines that it looked rather like a pack of gypsies had decended on the farm.
There were four couples, teenagers and their friends, two grandparents and three little kids. The three dogs and two cats made up the rest of the menagerie.
I am smoked out. I am partied out. I am very close to falling into bed.
I have some photos, but not much as it was a bit of a blur and I forget that darned camera most of the time. Will post tomorrow.
Sounds like you and everyone had a great time.
