do you know how to set the machine for cold smoking salmon?

Here is the type of setup I use. If you still have problems keeping the cabinet temperature below 90°F, you can place ice in the cabinet. If you have concerns about the cardboard, I have never had a problem. Just make sure that the slot you cut is wide enough so that the cardboard is not touching any part of the generator.

Welcome SBurton,
The cardboard box is a very easy, inexpensive and most importantly effective way to cold smoke.  I would also suggest taking a look at the Recipe site for some of the greatest smoke salmon you will taste.
