Acronyms don't ya just love them. Anyway it looks like from my application with e-QIP that PCD/DISCO (a branch of the DOD [Department Of Defense] ) has accepted me as the FSO for Susan's and my company. FSO = Facility Security Officer. :) This is the first and most important step in our quest for Secret Clearance with the DOD. We should have our interium clearance within the next 20 days. This has been an on going 18 month project, with a major DOD contractor backing us and in the latter days Congressman Bill Young helping out. Sometimes the little people of the world do get a break.
I cannot tell you what it means to Susan and myself to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Of course when I do get to JPAS (dont ask what it means) I'm told that the paper work there makes my 30 page application with e-QIP look like childs play. :o

Congrats Olds! Be careful as the FSO. One little slip up can cause a lot of grief.
Geez Old's, for a guy like you that is "retired" like me you work more than I do!!! :D
Hope the paper work really isn't as bad as they say for you and Susan.
Congrats on the new step forward buddy!
Pat & Ann
Thanks Pat...it is funny. I was just thinking a couple of days back just how nice retirement was two years ago. LOL~~!
QuoteCongrats Olds! Be careful as the FSO. One little slip up can cause a lot of grief.
I'm lucky to have some mighty fine folks from Raytheon guiding me. If fact we are using the same company that Raytheon does to do the background and fore-ground checks for all employees.
However, your warning has not fallen on deaf ears.
Hey Oldman-My wife and I met a couple of guys at a bar the other night that work (or worked, can't remember) at the Raytheon in Bristol, TN. If we could get you (at least temporarily) assigned up here, maybe some cooking lessons... ;) Congrats, by the way, on your "deal".
good news olds...
i know they are out there... you doo too... dont look at the light if they are wearing sun glasses...
crazy aint it...

I'm happy to hear you got approval to receive your FSO status. I'm sure with your company's history of solid and sound business practices, that the next stages will be just as successful.

I know that feeling.
However, I hope you are injoying you "Retirement" as much as I am. :D
Congrat's. Just don't let your "retirement" become overwhelming.

Well done Raye. :)
I have no idea what all that means for sure but it sounds important and it sounds like your pretty excited about it so congrats Olds. I hope that when I get your age I still have the ambition that you have.
Well done Raye and Susan, a big step forward for sure! (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Others/good-news-175.gif) (http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s62/Gitster59/Big-Thumbs-Up.gif)
very cool olds, i think classroom training is now mandatory. The best thing you can do is study the old army fso manual (the yellow paper back) it usually comes with your rep on the first interium follow up. It helps greatly (or so I have heard somewhere).
When your employees submit make sure they are detailed or they will never clear.
Great fun ahead ;D as WCat says dont slip :-[ or there is no end to the work.

JPAS = Joint Personel Adjudication System
Basically a "paperless" method that when folks visit you or you vist others you "visit requests" are sent through this system and you are Cleared. Gone are the days of sending/faxing paper visit requests. "yeah right"
Steven
QuoteGone are the days of sending/faxing paper visit requests. "yeah right"
You are correct. I've had to fax several items in that past two weeks. Also part two of any employees application is private and is given to me in a sealed envelope. Snail Mail -- lol!
Now what is totally paperless is Wide Area Workflow. It is how I bill the Government for services rendered at SOcom. It is a pain in the shorts. Not only do I have to create the invoice, I have to create their receiving report. LOL!
Then you have to get the slugs like me to look at it in a timely manner and sign off on it. Of course that means PRINTING OUT the report sigining it and giving it to our contracting officer to put in the records. **SIGH**
A bit of advice from this end. When you put your items in to WAF drop a courtesy email to the contracting officer and the program manager (person signing off). WAF is supposed to notify us but more oftne than not chokes and we only remember / find out when the contractor calls wondering why DFAS hasn't released payment yet.
Good luck and welcome to the dark side.
Steven
PS>
I would caution you not to put yourself in a bind financially and depend on the government to be timely in payments. WAF is an improvement but flawed and could take longer sometimes to pay out.

Tell me about it.. I've seen 45 days before it shows up in my bank account -- direct deposit.
Believe me everyone in my list gets an E-mail when I post an invoice.
However, thanks of your advice.
Olds
Hope this puts you on the top shelf for retiring soon buddy. If anybody deservers it, I would say it's me, opps I mean you :o :D ;D Ya done good Old Man.
Retired... I don't think so... I just purchased 10 more of these:
A couple of them I'm going to have to turn into silent machines as they will be going to a 24/7 call center... retired... ya ;)
BTW that is a 30" wide vacuum cleaner with two vac motors, drive brush motor and pull out attachments. What I like about this machine is there is a switch to turn off just the bush when using the attachments and it drives so nice, so easy to handle.
EDIT: They retail for 2,500.00. Normally you can get them for 2000.00 and freight. I got these at $1,135.00 ea. and free freight. I don't need 10 more at the moment but at that price I could not pass them up. I'm getting them directly from the manufacture... they sorta owe me one.
