I can't wait, one of my favorite days of the year.

Start out early in the morning with our annual Turkey Bowl football game with friends. This is supposed to be our last year of tackle so hopefully I can still walk to the dinner table  ;D Then head over to the in-laws for great food, a comfortable couch and enjoying my first Thanksgiving with my son Carter and the rest of the family!

Hope everyone has a great and safe Thanksgiving!

I'm still debating.  One thing that's out is going to my aunt's house...called her and cancelled last night.  May go to the City to Dad's Girlfriend's Son and Daughter-in-law's house, Grandma's Apartment, or just stay home with my fuzzy girlfriends.  If I stay home, I'm doing a turkey in the oven, but debating over whether to cold smoke it for a couple/few hours Wednesday night first...not sure if I'd want a smoky flavor in the gravy that I'm going to try to make, as it will be my first attempt at gravy for mashed potatoes.

I'm sure whatever I do, I will eat too much, drink a bit, and watch some football and maybe a parade in the morning.

QuoteThis is supposed to be our last year of tackle

I decided when I hit 30 that tackle football was out.  Then we decided touch was boring and the NFL games with gobs of beer was much more fun ;D  Have a great Thanksgiving all.

My Thanksgiving meal will be whatever appeals to me at one of the many restaurants at Churchill Downs. The wife and I have made it a tradition to spend Thanksgiving weekend at the horse races at Louisville. We eat good food, I drink heavily (and we take a cab or walk) and hopefully win a little money playing the ponies. I would like to wish all of the "forumers" a very safe and happy Thanksgiving!

OK...big admission here...I only cook a turkey in the oven for Thanksgiving...I like the bird stuffed...don't really think you can do that on the smoker because of low temp. BUT...for those of you who are good with smoking the bird...my Mom puts the bird on the bottom and a ham on the top rack of the smoker. Then slathers the ham with a honey maple syrup mixture and it all drips down on the top of the turkey as they both smoke...It really is awesome if you're feeding a big crowd!! :)

Taking a break from smoked food. I will be visiting relatives, and bringing the brussel sprouts.

Mike;
You can't beat brussel sprouts. I thought I had posted the recipe last year but couldn't find it "Braised Brussels Sprouts With Bacon And Pecans". It was a recipe printed in Cook's Illustrated, and I added a few ingredients.

La Quinta your way sound just as good as the recipe I use. I will post the recipe in the recipe in the non-smoke thread.

I am smoking my first turkey tomorrow.  Got it in the brine now.  Simple brine with some brown sugar, lots of garlic and rosemary.  We'll see.  I am jazzed to see how it comes out.
